On the USAFA thread, I found this:
"During BCT, be ready for 20min self-paced run, then an "indian run," then a series of 1 minute sprints. It is about 45minutes of running. Be able to run for at least 3-4 miles at a good pace (7.5-8 mph min). "

Does anyone have any insight as to how a run at West Point's BCT is like in specifics? Are the runs broken up into parts like above, or is it straight 3-4 mile runs every other day?

Also, what happens, god forbid, if you were to fall out of formation for not being able to keep up in the runs?

The runs were fairly simple during my Beast. On run days you would just run for about 45 minutes at a constant pace. Keep in mind there are a lot of hills here. On muscular endurance days we just ran to the fields (by the docks) to do PT then after run back (which sucked because we had to run up "MSE Hill" after doing a long work out).

If you fall out then you will get moved down to a slower run group. Not sure what happens besides that as I never ran into that problem.

This is a stupid question, but let's say a New Cadet's running improves more rapidly than others after they have already been placed in a designated running group. Is it possible to be moved up to a faster running group? Considering you can be moved to a slower one if you fall out.

Gold group started running about 2miles at 8:30, then progressed from there to longer runs in the 7s. (Gold was the slowest group last summer). MSE hill runs are tough for gold group people at first, because they're running with people who can run a lot better than them, but with a little help in the beginning by half way through the summer it's no big deal.

I was wondering, how does your allocation on a running group affect your cadetship throughout the years (and after graduation)?

Your running group will just affect how miserable you are until the end of Beast.

But seriously, it doesn't affect anything other than help push your running ability while you're at Beast.

Applying vs Doing

I was wondering how fast do you have to be able to run the mile to get in?

I got in with a 7:08 mile, 54 push-ups, 65 sit-ups, 8 pull ups. Obviously not the most athletic candidate but I had strong academics and leadership. I also applied early, I think the best way to give yourself an advantage is to finish a quality application by the end of summer.

I thought the question about the pace of the running times was pretty interesting though, and as a future cadet, anyone who can give some insight would be appreciated.

The question is not "how fast or how much to get in". Your goal should be to aim for the max in all of them to be more competitive.
