I'm a senior at a magnet high school with the following resume

Academics:
3.91 GPA (unweighted)
4.7 GPA (weighted)
AP - World History, US History, Language and Comp, Calc BC, Physics C, Government
Rank: 9
Class size: 681 and going down

SAT:
Reading:620
Writing: 570
Math: 670

Activities:
Armed Drill Team
Varsity Cross Country
Varsity Swimming
PFT Team

Leadership:
Flight Commander
Student Council Liaison Officer
Support Group Commander
Vice Wing Commander
Wing Commander

Community Service:
Key Club - walks to raise money for the blind and etc...
NHS _ opportunity village to help autistic children
Various activities but admittedly very low. Our JROTC program has always lacked this and i plan on changing this this year, however it won't help me much by now lol

My school is an aviation/medical magnet school. I'm currently working on my private pilot's license and have around 30+ hours (will have around 40+ when done)

Obviously from the title I'm from Nevada, and from what i've found out, it's a competitive state with Nellis AFB being a huge influence on people and the Air Force. I've gotten 2 noms, one from my representative and senator but im a little concerned with my SAT writing score and community service holding me back...

Has anyone been appointed from Nevada though? I have heard so little and my ALO seems to be left in the dark when it comes to admissions and appointments lol

its pretty much too late to improve anything but im curious to hear your opinion :smile:any advice or comments would be much appreciated :thumb:

I don't know if they have changed from last year, but I don't think the writing score matters. Good luck.

your SAT stats are similar to my son - he also scored lower in writing. (no one can read his writing - lol) your class rank and gpa are slighly higher. He also has similar AP classes. he is a 1 sport athlete - swimming but had alot of outdoor activities like kayaking; hiking; 5k races. he has done scouts since 1st grade; is an eagle scout, has had just about every leadership position possible including senior patrol leader in scouts. also went to boys state; in NHS. but you appear to have leadership as well as several good activities.

ds has an appointment. On the surface you look qualified with all bases covered including leadership. Be patient - from what can be read on these forums its very competitive this year with less spots and that BFE mass mailing is delayed. If it is meant to be - it will happen. make sure Plan B and Plan C is in place while you are waiting. And Have Fun senior year - safely! Enjoy this moment; this moment is your life.
good luck!

I wouldn't worry about Nellis, you now have to look at it from competing against everyone on the slate for the highest WCS.

It actually might help you to have military kids on your slate. Reason why is that they will have another nom source that you won't have; Presidential. Thus, these kids can be pulled in that way and reduce the competition on your MOC slate.

Finally! Another Nevadan on the forum!

You look pretty good. I was in your same position last year. My scores were M660, R640 W600. I didn't do ROTC, but you seem to have had some leadership positions and have done stuff with them. Remember its not about the amount of leadership, but the quality. I was captain on my baseball and football team, started a small community service project, and was in student council. Thats it!

It wasn't until around this time last year that I received my BFE in the mail. Keep your head up and those fingers crossed

So to DK6732, it is OK to not have heard anything yet? I am both triple qualified and nominated so all I am doing is waiting. So it is OK that it is March and not to hear anything yet?

This year is different than last year. There are fewer slots so they are taking their time. My source told me my son's MOC will have their slate reviewed on 3/18/11. Be patient. Also, note that there have been few appointments added to the appointment thread recently. Hopefully that will change soon.

Dad is correct, it's a little different this year, but just be patient, the panels are still meeting and you def still have a chance.

I got my appointment on 3/18 last year, and I know a lot of other people did too so maybe the day you are all waiting for is almost here.
