I am a sophomore, am homeschooled, have all A's, and take French at the local high school. I am fluent in German (at a 7th grader's level), took one year of Latin, am in Italian 1 and Spanish 1 (languages are my thing, in case you couldn't tell). I am taking the equivalent of honors classes, some of which are AP. I am in trig and took chem last year and am doing bio this year, next will be physics. My SAT scores are currently 590 for math, 620 for verbal and 710 for writing. I have 2 varsity letters in swimming (at the local hs), and having a good chance of 2 more and becoming captain. Even though I make New Hampshire State Championships in swimming, my times aren't really that fast, and New Hampshire is a small state. I swim on a club swim team year round as well. I am on crew too, but you can't be varsity freshmen year, because we all start as novices, and it hasn't started yet this year. I have life-guarded the past 2 summers and am hoping to teach swim lessons this coming summer. This summer I will hopefully be finishing my Girl Scout Gold Award Project and I joined Civil Air Patrol last fall and am now a Senior Airman. I am definitely interested in a military career, and have loved the orientation flights that I have gotten to do in C.A.P. Do I have a good chance at getting into USAFA?

Two questions:

1. How much volunteering have you done?

2. Why do you want to join the military?

Strike Eagle: I have done a fair amount of volunteering, I helped the religious ed teachers at my church all last year, and I volunteered as a swim lesson teacher last summer. The Gold Award Project is also a volunteer project.
I want to join because it sounds like I'll fit in with that kind of career. I have heard lots about the military (parents went to West Point, uncles as well, aunt went to Air Force and my brother is at USAFA as an C4C right now, just got recognized). It has an appeal to me. All this military history has instilled in me a feeling that I should serve my country, and do everything I can. I like discipline and set ways to do something. I also really like challenges and competition, they make me work harder and do better. Also, I spent a year in Switzerland as an exchange student, and even though they have tons of freedom, America is different. We have more choices and can do what we want, and I want to help keep it that way.
