Yesterday I received a 4 year NROTC- Marine Option Scholarship; which, of course, is the amazing news!:thumb:

However, the second part of that news is that I put down as my five schools The Citadel, VMI, Norwich, ERAU, and Texas A and M. I was informed that those schools are "closed". Are there any options around this?? They assigned me to UCLA (I did not even apply to a UC, it is too late to turn in an application, and I cannot see myself attending UCLA).:frown:

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!

F22- Congratulations on the Scholarship- I don't have much experience with N/MCROTC but I would suggest that you get on the phone with the MCROTC detachment at some or all of those schools and ask them what if anything you can do- especially if you have also been accepted to those schools already. I'm certain for example that the PNS at VMI (Colonel Hough) would be happy to give you some guidance on your options if you truly want to use that scholarship at VMI.
Good luck and congratulations- it will work out!

F22F35.........just curious.........where are you from? Could your school assignment have anything to do with where you live?

You are right about that, I just have not got around to changing it.

I think I would rather attend The Citadel; I went there and totally loved it!

In my email it said that I can be put on the waitlist for other schools, but to do so I must first accept my scholarship at UCLA.

I live in CA.

My DS liked the Citadel very much after visiting on an overnight. He has been admitted there, VMI, Norwich and Texas A&M. All on his MO NROTC application. Still waiting on that. BTW, the girls are beautiful at UCLA.....

Haha, thank you....
But you might want to know that I am a girl!!!!! lol
That was just to funny:D

Does anybody have the contact information (preferably email) for the Marine NROTC detachment?

Well you could at least make the inquiry...

If you live in California (i think I read that) you could at least make contact with the Unit.

Not to mention UCLA admissions. UCLA is a great school with a selective reputation...

Unsure of your Hometown, but Westwood is really nice.

Have you seen the campus. (You probably went to BHH, with my luck.)

A previous post stated that the Citadel, VMI, and Texas A&M have filled their quotas for NROTC MO. You might want to give them a call and double check their availability just in case you need to start the search for schools with open slots.

Thank you for the links. I live about an hour and a half north of Yosemite. I am sure UCLA is a great school, but I just cannot see myself living there. Also I did not apply and did not take SAT IIs. I just really wanted to attend The Citadel.

I tried to get the MO scholarship transferred to The Citadel, but they are already full and have ten people on the waitlist with scholarships. When I was told that, I went on a mad search to find schools with open slots.

A good idea. Thanks. Still have no word on the scholarship Got to wait for that, I think

Ugh.
Well thanks everyone for the advice. Seems all of the schools I applied to are full.

EVERYONE: PLEASE READ!!

DS's school choice list for NROTC was apparently updated to include UCLA today. DS has NEVER applied to UCLA and has NEVER requested that school on his NROTC application.

I urge everyone to take a look at their school choice list to see if this is happening to them as well. It may be that NROTC is simply listing UCLA as a placeholder until school allocations can be sorted out at a later date. DS has sent an email requesting clarification.

Is this only happening to F22F35 and patentesq's DS????

Did you receive an email stating this also? I did and it said I had all these different options- none of which were acceptable...

No email yet. I just happened to notice the change today when checking the status. DS sent an email in an effort avoid the email that you received. It may be, though, that this email is already in motion.

We do not see this change. However, it may still be a good sign for your DS that they are looking at his app even if he doesn't want UCLA. I feel like we are at the end of the road with NROTC any time now.

We were talking yesterday to a friend of ours who's son applied for a NROTC MO scholarship. He got word 2 days a go that he received a scholarship. The scholarship was to a school he did not have on his list. He called and was told that the reason for this was because the shools he listed were full. He contacted each school on his list and was told that indeed they were full and had long waiting lists. When he called the NROTC people back the woman he spoke with told him that he could transfer the scholarship to any school that had an opening and he couls still obtain addmission to, of course this is a problem for a lot of schools since many have passed the application deadline. He did find a school he likes and still had open addmissions, he has applied and requested a transfer.

It could be that the schools on your son's list are full and they are adding a school to keep him in the system so as to be able to transfer if he receives the scholarship. You might want to check with the schools to see if they are indeed full, that could shed some light on the situation.

What is the link to check your school choice list? When I go to the app login page it says the 2011 application process is closed...

May I ask what school he applied to?
