Class of 2015 - Mailbox Stalkers Club

I don't mean to be nosy...but r u (if u r the parent) in the military?...someone told me that military kids have better chance...have u heard that? Just wondering. My son has a "military family" cel. and gen. but all of them in the Brazilian military...so that doesn't count or help :(
I sure hope u get a BFE soon...perhaps they will send priority mail so u can get faster :)

I am, like many others here, a candidate for USAFA class of 2015. I am not a member of the US military myself....yet. My dad used to serve in the US Air Force though. I don't know much about sons/daughters of military parents getting the 'upper hand' in the admissions process; if anything, they would have been exposed to the demanding military lifestyle, thus are perhaps more prepared for it - something military academies would look favorably at. I'm sure many of our helpful members can help you out on that one.

I would sure love to get that BFE in the mail anytime soon! :)

I am so happy for you and so greatful that you started this thread. I just heard about this forrum today because my daughter didn't want me to help her with anything :-(. She said she had to do everything by herself so I really didn't know my way around. I am so happy to read that the letters are coming. We have all stalked the mailbox also but thought we had already missed the boat, since we had not heard anything. There is still hope. Thanks again for starting this thread.
Another anxious mom.

So this week is spring break for the Academy and I was wondering whether or not the board will meet over the break? Does anybody know?

Considering the amount of work yet to be done and the fact that academic breaks have nothing to do with the operation of the admissions staff, I think that is immaterial. The scuttlebutt around here is that there will be alot of activity around the 25th and beyond. So.....

New Mailbox Stalker

Thank you all for your comments, they have been a great source of sanity! My DS said that the MOCs rep told him on the phone in December that he was the MOCs principal nominee. I did not attend the nomination interview at DSs request. Now I am concerned that he misunderstood since we have not heard anything. The MOC currently sitting is not the one that did the nominating, since nominations occurred before the November elections. I was not able to get the straight info from his ALO (ALO did not even know he had a nom) or the MOC's office. I am very nervous because DS did not prepare properly for his CFA and did below average in every event. Any chance for a redo? Would it be appropriate to ask the ALO if he is 3Q'ed? I hate to bother him again.

Hopeful Mom of 2015 candidate

From what I understand from my reading on this forum if the Academy wants you to redo the CFA they will contact you. I know of at least one person that was contacted to redo the CFA. You can't request it be redone, it has to come from the Academy.

Good luck to everyone here! Currently an enlisted guy here. I got an early appointment to the prep school back in January. I sent in my intent to accept the offer, and just waiting on what to do next. =P

I know how you all feel though. I know the feeling of going to the portal and constantly looking at it. About the portal, I received my appointment in January, and it wasn't until mid-February that it was updated online.

Speechless!!

Just got contacted by my Senator's office, my DS was Just offered an appointment! :jump1:

Not sure how to tell him, or when, i.e. wait until the BFE arrives and let him find it on his desk or tell him now. I still plan on being a member of the MB Stalkers club, but right now we are simply humbled and happy for our son.

Remember folks THIS is the week we thought things would start getting interesting - here is proof positive. Hope we can all share a moment like this before too long!

Military children do not get in any easier than the "traditional" candidate.

They do have one extra nom, but remember it is unlimited in the amount getting the nom, unlike the MOC. Additionally overseas candidates have a problem since it is highly unlikely that they can travel stateside for the interview, so it is done by phone or just paper, compared to the candidate who lives in the district. Finally, overseas causes even more issues since they may be attending schools that don't have the rigor like stateside.

In the end of the day for military and non-military it is the same thing, WCS wins the apptmt.

Presidential is for only military children, so I do understand the thought, but, these are also kids who move every few yrs, thus for many they never are in a hs long enough to be Class President or team Captain. Our eldest went to 3 hs, our middle went to 2, our youngest will attend 1 (but Dad retired when he was a rising fresh). It exists to combat the issue that their ECs can be seen as not as competitive as the non-military due to the fact they move so often. It is trying to level the playing field.

Congrats falcon...GO out and buy bubble wrap now! You thought you would cringe before when you watched them play a sport from the bleacher now it is 10000 fold:wink:

Whoooo!

Our Congressman called the house this morning just before 10am asking when the best time would be to call our daughter! I told him her schedule, school, soccer practice..etc I was trying to think fast...lol..under pressure...and asked if he could possibly call her at school. He said "of course". So I asked him to give me a minute to call the school and have them pull her out of class for the call. She was so excited:jump1: They took a picture of her on the phone for me. We were not expecting this today.... Thank you all for the support on this forum <3

Staples sells bubble wrap at the cheapest price :shake:

Congrats.

Yes he will love coming to the plate with a full grill on his helmet, chest protector, steel toed work boots....did I forget anything?

On a more serious note, Thank you everyone for the kind words...Pima knows this better than anyone and I take her word for it...this is only the start of many more challenging tests. Humbling is the only word to describe it.

thank you for the clarification "Pima". No BFE or phone calls yet...but hoping that by the end of the wk we will have one...trying not to be on a panic mode.

YMG, This may not sound great coming from me, but don't panic, this process can go on for weeks. The announcements today just shows that the wheels are moving and the notifications are starting to come. I'll stick it out here with you!

thank you "falconfamily"!!! That is very kind and encouraging
I really really appreciate...more than you think :)
