Overnight Stay Clothing

I'm wearing a dress shirt, dress pants and dress shoes the day of my overnight stay at USMA. Are candidates permitted to wear a collared shirt and a pair of jeans the following day when they are leaving USMA? My overnight is scheduled for a Friday and ends on a Saturday if that makes a difference.

I can only contribute what my cadet wore; hopefully current cadets who have recently hosted candidates will chime in. My cadet wore a nice polo shirt and khakis for a spring visit and a nice sweater and khakis for a fall visit. I would think nice jeans and polo shirt are fine for Saturday.

Just my opinion, of course, but I thought the candidates who wore a suit or coat and tie were overdressed.

I'll also be wearing a polo. Did your cadet bring a sleeping bag or was he provided something to sleep on?
 
"While suits are not required, candidates are asked to wear casual dress, such as ironed slacks/trousers, loafers or similar comfortable shoes, polo or button-down shirts. Blazers, sweaters/cardigans and cold weather attire as appropriate. "

This is what the overnight stay confirmation letter says. No, you don't need a sleeping bag. They supply a cot, but my cadet's roommate was extremely generous and made me sleep on her bed (she slept on the cot instead).
 
Thanks for the help. Glad I don't have to pack a sleeping bag in my luggage.
 
I guess I'll be the odd one out: Id say go for a coat and tie. Its really not "fancy". Its casual, but a bit nicer than a polo and khakis, in my opinion. Its not like wearing a JROTC uniform and attracting a lot of attention to yourself.
 
I'd recommend against wearing a coat and tie. I went with a button down shirt and a north face jacket when I did my overnight in November. A coat and tie (or your JROTC uniform) is a bit much. Most of the other candidates who were there when I was also wore a button down shirt and khaki pants.


As said before, you don't need a sleeping bag. Sleeping arrangements will be provided for you.
 
A nice polo and kakis gets my vote. No need to overdress with a coat and tie.

I also don't see a problem with some nice jeans the next day, just make sure you have a nice collared shirt to go along with them.

As it has already been said: you don't need to bring any a sleeping bag.
 
Concur that the coat and tie is overkill.
Polo/button down shirt and khakis is fine.

And DON'T wear your letter jacket!
 
But remember to bring layers. I visited during the last week of February and it felt like my hands were going to crystallize. Bring gloves.
