I guess I should be happy to see that others are getting calls and knowing it's finally starting. But it makes the waiting that much more stressful when your kids hasn't received a call yet.
Couldn't agree with you more

I know exactly how you feel. I'm in the same boat. At least the process is starting, so either way, the wait will be over soon.
Thats an awesome story, Jwalsh. Thanks for sharing. I definitely plan on attending georgia tech on an AFROTC scholarship and reapplying as soon as possible if I am not given an appointment.Even if you don't get accepted, don't be too worried. I had a long path before I could get accepted. I graduated high school in 2008. When I applied directly out of high school, my application didn't really get anywhere. I was nowhere near competitive. Discouraged, I just enrolled in a normal local college. No ROTC or anything like that, the school didn't offer it. Anyway, it wasn't until my mom was laid off from her job later in 2008 that I started to really worry. I had done the Summer, and Fall semesters, and was already registered for Spring. We couldn't get accepted for school loans anymore, and since she was laid off in October, FAFSA just looks at the final year totals, so I didn't qualify for federal aid. What that meant for me was I was dropping out of school. That was when I started doing some research and found the Montgomery GI bill. So, I enlisted. After all the paperwork was signed, I saw that there was an opportunity for enlisted airmen to receive an appointment to the academy. From that point on, I did everything I could to be a model airman. I volunteered for things like Habitat for Humanity in Mississippi to help out with the aftermath of Katrina, Leadership position in our job training school, etc. It was my goal on the first day of basic to get an appointment into this school. Just because they tell you no once, doesn't mean you can't work to make yourself a better candidate. If you get denied, take it with pride. Talk to your ALO and ask what areas you can improve on. Take some classes at a community college to build some of your academic abilities. Now, I've been out of high school for three years, I am just now getting an appointment to the prep school. Don't fret over a TWE, just look at is as a new challenge to overcome!
It has been my goal since 2006, my cousin's graduation from the academy, to be in that exact spot one day. To be able to throw my cap up in the air as the Thunderbirds fly overhead. I never would have thought that it would come ten years later.
My wife looked at me today and said YOU'RE A BIT STRESSED today.
Just remember that the machinery has just started moving...there are weeks of this before the class is formed. Try to keep that in perspective. All of us are pulling for you guys!Yes, I am the wife and I did do that.
Our DS got a call tonight... but from another college that he had applied to. I walked slowly into the office only for him to say "it's not them, it's not them". He is a little bit more uptight now.

You are my hero, jwalsh1! And how very kind and humble of you to share your path to the AFA with all of us. My DS has already been accepted to his 2nd choice and has signed up for AFROTC etc. and will be undeterred to re-apply in the Fall. In fact, all of our MOC's principle noms are current college freshman who are in their respective ROTC's so that should make all "TWE recipients" feel a little better! And, as has been stated numerous times on this thread.....everyone who is now waiting is ALREADY a winner!
And, since we're lamenting here....tonite my son is at his last scout meeting, as he turns 18 tomorrow and that officially ends Boy Scouts. Lot's of milestones these past few months, and more to come. It was MUCH easier to send DD off to college!
For those who have only a Presidential nomination, will those candidates still be notified by the MOC (even if they did not apply to that congressman.)Or will the candidate need just to stalk the mailbox, every single day.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I checked around with people who received appointments for other service academies, and I found that my senator writes to their candidates instead of calling. Going to be a loooooong week.wshilton, I don't know the answer to your question:re "will those candidates be notified by the MOC".....but I can tell you that, by studing these threads like a Rhodes Scholar, I DO know that not all MOC's make a phone call. So in the end, it's a week's difference between a phone call from the MOC and/or the BFE. In the scheme of life, a week is insignificant. In the scheme of waiting, I know it's a lifetime! Good luck to you!
