I have been told that NROTC scholarships are typically awarded to in-state schools, regardless of rank of school choices. Has anybody (out-of-state) received NROTC MO to Citadel for this fall?

Still waiting to hear on MO NROTC. DS has been admitted to the Citadel and it is high on my DS's list of 5 and we are out of state also. I'm not sure I agree that "typically awarded" is correct. They want an in state school for one of the 5 but the top ranked applicants often get their first choice regardless.

This is from the NROTC department at The Citadel.......

Regardless of school acceptance and or choice of schools it is most likely, that if awarded a scholarship, it will be to an instate school as the Navy traditionally awards to instate schools due to tuition costs.

They also told me they are overcapacity with regards to scholarship offers right now with a waiting list of 9. Not sure exactly how to interpret that.

Wow. I had not seen that. Interesting. I wonder if that is necessarily true for Marine Option, since the Marines typically run their own show. So are they over for MO or just for NROTC?

Not sure. I specifically inquired about MO and this is the response I received. Good luck to you and your DS. What state are you from?

Pennak,
Is an in-state school a requirement in the five choices or just that one must be a state school and not all private schools?
Thanks-

I don't know if it works the same way for MO as regular NROTC, but for my NROTC app you had to have at least one school in your top 3 where you qualified for in state tuition. :thumb:

I thought that they didn't even look at the schools. That's what I remember reading, well at least not until they were chosen, that is.

This all is really confusing! I'm so tired of waiting, worrying, waiting, worrying, wondering, etc.... I just feel like giving up already.(no, my DS isn't like me)
Honestly, it makes more sense that if a student was qualified, and chose an in-state school, naturally they'd jump on that just b/c it is cheaper for them. Just my 2¢

I have been told multiple times that they don't look at schools. And then I've been told multiple times that they do. I agree about wishing there was more transparency in the ROTC process. This isn't simply an issue with NROTC..
