My DS's ALO received this message this morning from the Academy and forwarded it to us:

"We are mailing offers of appointment (close to 500) and status letters for disqualified candidates (3400) this Friday. We will be mailing letters to qualified candidates who were not appointed next week."

Yikes!!

Was this in addition to the 400 that were sent out a few days ago?

AFA here I come! :thumb:

Personally I don't think the 400 went out yet. I assume the "almost 500" includes the 400 mentioned earlier. I could be completely wrong though, and I really hope I am.:frown:

Does anyone else feel like their blood pressure climbs a few points each day the BFE doesn't arrive. Good lord, shoot me now..LOL. I really need to find some work to get my mind off this. My wife was reading the Stalkers thread this morning and said, I think I'm gonna puke.

I think you are totally correct, and I, too, wish that you were NOT!

I think that the 400 were the remaining MOC slots. The 500 this week are from NWL. I think so, anyway.

Too funny! :yllol:

I would LOVE some clarification on this! Since nobody has said anything about BFE's this week, that is why I really wonder.

This is pure speculation on my part. I should not have posted my whimsy.
Sorry.

Try not to read too much into this type of info. It is easy to garble this type of communication. I think it would be interesting for Flieger83, Pima or Christcorp to weigh into this.

My understanding is that names only come off of the NWL as offers are declined. That makes sense. For them to simply release appointments from this list is very risky since the Air Force is reducing the class size by about 174 cadets this year.

Last year they offered 1566 appointments and had 1269 acceptances. Roughly about a 19% decline rate. If they are shooting for a class size of 1120, the most appointments they can offer with a 19% decline rate is about 1310 (this is not a precise science, no body knows how many turnbacks and international students there are. In the past it was about 20-25 cadets).

We also cannot know the exact numbers of appointments already offered, but in other threads we believe that there about 200 preppies and about 100 Falcon Scholars. All of the athletic teams also get their appointments and the folks with the Letters of assurance have theirs (perhaps another 250) or so. If we add this up we have about 550 or so appointments (give or take 50 or 100) added to the 400 we believe was sent in the latest wave that gives me 950+- appointments offered. What this means to me is that it is not likely that there are 500 more appointments to be offered right now.

So while I hope that BFE's will fly out in another massive wave, I really don't know if the numbers will be what people are speculating. It could well be as some suggested that there are 500 going out BY this Friday, but it may include the 400 mentioned earlier.

As I said Pima, Christcorp, Flieger83, please chime in.

I just posted on the Stalkers thread that DH posted a question and received an answer on the Facebook page.

The 400+ appointment letters were going out of their office on Tuesday and are being mailed out today.

No need to apologize, all of us understand what you are going through waiting on the BFE's. I just want to make sure that we understand the correct information.

Today DS received an email invitation to a virtual academy tour for USAFA addressed to prospective cadet. Just FYI. Anyone else in our club receive this as well?

This yr is unique, not only regarding less numbers offered, but a new leadership for the AFA admissions process.

You all want answers. Trust your ALO's.

Again this is not anti-FB at all, but remember they have a system. I just posted on the other thread about "Can I wear contacts at BCT?"

Their answer was "We suggest you bring glasses"

For some they will take it as OKAY, they suggest, but not mandate.

The AFA poster didn't say, come with contacts and you will get glasses for BCT. Just said, we suggest you bring glasses. Those who bring will not get the BCGs, those who opted to believe they could wear contacts during BCT will get BCGs.

Back on topic, you ALO is your Liaison between you and the AFA. Use them. They understand your fears, your questions, and honestly they have the connections to answer you particular needs re: standings.

FB and this site is great for adhoc info, but it doesn't replace the ALO who knows your area and your child.

DS received that e-mail a few weeks ago. They mistakenly addressed it "Dear Appointee". They retracted that e-mail and resent it addressed to "Prospective Candidate". Had him (and the family) excited for a while.

ALO's message about RRS mailings today

Okay...

Actually I'm a bit surprised an ALO told a candidate this, as it was supposed to be "close hold" information: not disseminated by anyone OTHER than USAFA/RRS.

That being the case...

It is true. USAFA/RRS (selections) is mailing out "close to" 500 BFE's today along with "status" letters for those "not qualified" for appointment. I can't give you the precise number but it's over 3K. Yes, these are the dreaded TWE's.

Next week, they will start to send out "TWE's" to those candidates that were "fully qualified for appointment but were not selected for whatever reason."

As a past recipient of the "TWE" I know how this feels. You've busted your A** for SOOOOO long to reach your goal, done everything you could, put yourself in the upper stratosphere of USA students...and then...a TWE arrives. And it's crushing...

IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!!!

Let me repeat that: it is NOT the end of the world. I received TWE's from USAFA, USMA, USNA, USCGA, when I was a senior in HS. I had to sit and make a HARD choice...what to do now as plan "B?" I chose to attend Northwestern Prep...gave up my "4-year guaranteed FULL RIDE AFROTC scholarship with a Pilot Slot" to go to a prep school that didn't even count for college.

In the end, I received BFE's from USAFA, USNA, USMA...

I recently received an invitation to a friends retirement from active duty. He was a "full bird" colonel, and had decided to retire to be with his family more and to try "new challenges." Plain English? He wasn't selected for Brigadier General. I mention him because he received the TWE...and wasn't afforded the opportunity to go to any of the prep schools. So he went to college (no scholarship) and enrolled in ROTC. After 2 years he was on full scholarship...and he never looked back!

I'd say retiring as a full colonel after 26 years is a pretty excellent career! :thumb:

For those of you about to receive the BFE...your world is about to change; more than you know.

I want to congratulate ALL OF YOU!!! Whether you receive a BFE or TWE...
:jump1:

:worship: LOOK BACK AT WHAT YOU'VE ACCOMPLISHED! :worship:

You've become so much more mature, more focused, more "attuned" to the world around you, have limitless options in front of you, and you've learned how to prioritize, set goals, meet them, etc...

I'm VERY glad I don't have to compete with ANY of you...I couldn't keep up! :stretcher:

You ALL have my highest respect!

I'm surprised it was considered "close hold" as admissions put practically the same information up on their facebook page! Regardless, nice to know that alot of wonderful young adults will soon know their fate regarding USAFA!
Best Wishes to all of you!

Well, on a positive note, there will be "some" additional BFE's (very few I would imagine) that will trickle out as folks decline. Is this correct? And Steve and Pima....you two are awesome!
