Hello all!

James Walsh, E-3 USAF. I have been lurking the forums reading information about applying for a year now. Finally decided to register. Great community you have here. I have already received my appointment to the prep school (and accepted it). I'm here to meet my future classmates, and so I can help out those who are currently enlisted in their application. It was so hard to find all the information for enlisted folks, because no one really knows the process. Send me a PM if you yourself are enlisted and need help with the process.

Many Thanks! I figured that it is the least I can do to help out. It took a lot of time to figure out how to apply as an enlisted airmen. The process for high schoolers is pretty solid and easy to figure out (if you do the reading!). For enlisted airmen, the info is all over the place. I had to read AFI's and call the school for so much of it. I hope to make it easier on future enlisted folks out there. Between this site and the USAFA PECA's site, I was able to figure it all out. (With some help of my base education office!) Anyway, I would like to thank the community for all the information I found here that I got through google searches. =P

Greetings! Wise decision on your part - you will never regret it. It took me a much longer time to make the same choice. I remember taking my WAPS test for TSgt and thinking, "I'll never make Chief. There has to be a better way to get ahead."

BTW: I was stationed at Andrews from 80-83 at HQAFSC. It's the big building that looks like half of a wagon wheel. Is it still there? If so, who's in there?

Good luck!

Yes, it is still there indeed. It is the current headquarters building. It has the Wing commander, HQ AFOSI, HQ AFDW, and a lot more; however, it is going to be torn down soon. They actually doing the ribbon cutting today for the building that is replacing it. Being in the com squadron, I've been in that building tons of times already now. Actually, I was in there today. =P They were doing last min cleaning before they give all the generals the tour. Haha.

Thanks for the udate. I was in "B" wing; 3rd floor. That bulding has some memories for me as a brand-new 2LT. There was a small BX in it that I would go to on occasion. One day, on one side of the book rack were two LtCol's saying to each other that they hoped the Col. wasn't looking for them. On the other side of that rack were two Col's who were saying that they hoped the Gen. wasn't looking for them. At that time we a 4 star, a 3 star, and numerous 2 stars occupying the place.

Hey!! I am currently E3 as well, I am wondering how long have you been waiting for a response from the USAFA or USAFAPS? It feels like I have been waiting here forever!!

Welcome to the forum, jwalsh1. Congratulations on your acceptance and good luck at the prep school. :thumb:

I was actually selected to go on a visitation of the campus back in January. When I got there, they had a presentation of early appointments at the end of the welcome briefings.

Thank you! Now for the hard part, surviving. =P
