Trying to maybe see if anyone on here is doing AFROTC at FSU next year bc I'm trying to find a roommate with the same schedule I'd have! If anyone is let me know!

Thanks!

I would suggest you go to www.collegeconfidential.com and under FSU post that.

The difference between here and there is that site is more about each college, and this site is more about the military and not the particular college.

That being stated as a Mom with 2 kids in college. I would leave it to the school to set you up. FSU will send you a questionnaire regarding your desires for a roommate.

There is more to living with someone than schedules.

DS did not choose freshman yr, allowed the college to assign him a room mate. DD decided to use social networking sites and selected a room mate. DS had an enjoyable yr., because they respected each other as room mates placed together. DD's room mate moved out in January because they came in with pre-conceived notions since they selected each other and by T-Day were close to killing each other.

The questionnaires they send out give better insight of each other's needs. For ex:

DD didn't know that her room mates BF would be visiting every other weekend and staying in the dorm.

DD likes to study in the room. Room mate opted for the library, so for DD she couldn't study in the room since the room mate used the room as a social center.

DD is a neat nik. It doesn't have to be antiseptic, but everything needs to be in its place and presentable. Room mate would bring food back from the dining hall or order in pizza and leave the left overs out. Trust me food smells in a 12 X 12 room and in 80 degree heat.

Schedules will change during he yr. Personalities don't!

Throw my opinion in the circular filing cabinet (trash), it is my opinion. I just wouldn't go this route for scheduling needs. I def. would not room as a freshman with another AFROTC cadet, unless FSU is like VT where cadets must live in a cadet dorm.

I say that because living with them is like an arranged marriage.

I agree with Pima - DD went to Clemson her first year with 3 other roommates assigned by the school - got along very well with all of them. In fact, they are still good friends. Met another girl who wanted to room with DD sophomore year, DD agreed, and like Pima's DD, they ended up not getting along, and in fact, hardly ever talk to each other now. On DS roommate questionnaire, there were questions that cover most everything, from what time you usually wake in the morning and go to bed at night, whether you plan to study in the room, whether you will be bringing members of the opposite sex to visit/stay in the room and how often, whether you are clean or sloppy, like music loud or not so loud, and the questions went on and on. I truly believe you are better off letting them place you with someone. You can always ask to be moved if it doesn't work out.

It has been almost a yr now, but if I recall correctly, the questionnaire from the school was 3-4 pages long.

They take that and place it in a program. That spits out optimal room mates.

BTW when I say 3-4 pages. It is not short answers, it is a survey, of ranking 1-5.

It is probably 50 or so questions.

Also, I am sure FSU is like our kids colleges (very large ACC colleges, like bjc and Clemson). I will say both kids attend colleges with designated dorms. One has designated ROTC dorms, but not honors, the other one has designated scholars/honors dorms, but not ROTC.

If FSU has designated ROTC dorms, again I would say go to www.collegeconfidential.com or facebook.

If they don't trust them.

Remember that schools usually tell you 30 days out who your room mate will be. We are not talking your parents day and age with no internet or cell phones. You can get to know them before you show up.

Also, most parents will tell you that you will grow.

I'm going to FSU & they ask about two questions: Do you study with music on & something else I can't remember. I agree though that you should meet someone new. The only thing i'd be worried about is waking them up when you're getting ready for PT.

Are you living on campus?

I'm almost positive that FSU does not have dedicated ROTC dorms. Like our other state schools, there may be one dorm where many of the cadets live, but there isn't one set aside for only cadets. They have Honor's housing, but not ROTC.

I am staying dorms my freshmen year and i appreciate all of the information, i have heard all of what you're saying so it must be the correct choice. thanks for all the help, and yes thats what i was, didn't want to wake people up at 4 and 5 AM haha
