Hello, I was awarded a Type 7 Scholarship, and it said to complete the paperwork and return the paperwork by March 22. I have had a few hectic weeks with many colleges announcing their decisions and trying to keep tabs on the Academy, and the date really just slipped my mind and came a lot faster than I thought. I have been trying to contact AFROTCHQ to ask them about this, but I have had no response in 2 days. Is this a do or die date? I mailed my paperwork on the 26th. I am really hoping this can be forgiven. Can anyone off any insight? Thanks.

I don't think any of us can really say if that's a do or die date, but if you want the official word, it would be best just to contact them:

Call them up and see what they have to say. Even if it is too late, if they hear from you personally and there are extenuating circumstances, they may be able to work with you.

Personally, I think it might be too late. Stay persistent though and keep trying to contact them!!!!!!

I agree just keep calling and emailing them. I wouldn't give you odds either way because it may be a case by case scenario.

The only thing I would say is that telling them you lost sight of the due date, is not a good image you want to portray to the people that are giving you money. In other words, it could appear as a non-chalant attitude re: the scholarship. You didn't mean that much to me to prioritize, OR I am poor when it comes to time management. Neither is a good way to start off a conversation. Before you call role play in your mind what you are going to say, and make sure when they come back with a negative response you have an answer ready for them. In other words be them in your mind in the conversation.

ESPECIALLY, since the AF is going through force shape re-structuring!

I would contact them over and over again, be a pain in their arse until they respond. If that fails, contact the det you expect to join, and see if they can give you insight.

Lesson learned, you are going to be seen in a few months as a possible leader in the military, and that will not float with the AF. In the real AF, and even AFROTC, due dates are hard and fast. When they say the paperwork is due by close of duty day on X date, that's it.

A little motto I heard here in ROTC: "If you are on time, you are late. If you are early, you are on time."

That maybe also why the saying "hurry up and wait" also exists.

Our DS was told to have his security clearance for UPT done by Monday. He was given this on Thursday, spring break started Friday. Drove back up to the school Monday, to submit it. They turned and said, oh on Friday we got an extension until next Monday since we are on school break, didn't we call you? This was DS's internalized reaction :rant2: of course instead he saluted sharply and said well at least I am done.

This is also why I said, contact them since they may change it.

OBTW for future cadets, if you think this paperwork is intense for a scholarship.. Just wait. Security clearance paperwork is @25 + pages, and you must give multiple references for each place you lived in the past decade. Military kids like mine can end up with having to submit close to 10+ references...no family allowed.

Thanks for the advice and insight everyone. I made contact with them today, and everything will be fine. They are accepting my paperwork. I feel really embarassed that I missed this date. I will definitely take this lesson to heart. I spent too much time freaking out about the Academy when I should have started securing my plan B when things started to look bad. I thought I was going to be out both my plan A and B : /. Whew!
