The term "being on the bubble" has come up in some previous posts, and I was just wondering what exactly this means. Also, what is the difference between "being on the bubble" and being put on the waitlist? Also, is it known if the waitlist has been filled up? Thank you!

it is my understanding that "on the bubble" means 50-50 chance of a BFE or a TWE. This does not mean one is on the wait list however. Wait list candidates are qualified but there is not enough spots to appoint all the qualified candidates so to be wait listed means that when the Academy receives "no" from ppl, they will go to the list to fill the desired class size. (they gen offer 1500 appointments but about 1200 actually show up). and therefore, on the bubble simply means it could go either way for you.

My DS heard from his Blue and Gold Officer today that the academy has had a record number of applicants this year, some 15% to 20% above past high levels. He said one way or another we should all hear something in the next few days. Good luck to everyone.

I certainly hope so

please correct me if I'm wrong but this does not sound very promising :(

if it's unsettling because of the increase in applicants, I totally feel your point. especially when we can do nothing but wait. But as my mom says to appease my anxiety, i've done everything I can and to the best of my abilities and not to worry too much about things out of my control.

Envelope Stuffing?

Okay, so this came from a friendly mid, and it is ONLY HEAR-SAY(so don't quote me LOL, just take it for what it is worth, a ray of hope)...but I am posting just to keep us all in a frenzy :)
The USNA admissions office had an "envelope stuffing" event this week. What this means is all a guess...but people should be hearing something soon...if nothing else...by April 15...I know, what a tease right?
Anyway, my personal theory is: turn-down letters are one page and envelope stuffing of those can be done by a machine in no-time or by a person in "not very long."
However, judging from all the "good stuff" that went into my son's appointment packet in 2009, appointments take more work to prepare...
Okay, I am grasping at straws, but hey...I am a mom...and I am ever hopeful for all still waiting! Remember people, you are all amazing! You have made it this long and USNA can't figure out what to do, you have stumped them! You will have success in anything you do!
I am so proud to be the parent of one of you in this admissions cycle.
My daughter is in a musical right now, one of the songs is "what's the matter with kids today" (bye bye birdie :). I say nothing is the matter with the kids applying to service academies!!!
Keeping fingers and toes crossed for all of you in the coming weeks!

lol thank you pmlutton. Ill look at this ray of hope as a candle in the dark and as the saying goes, it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.

too bad there is no "like" button on SAF. Very well said futuresubofficer (by the way, my hubby is a "formersubofficer," if you have any questions for him I will be glad to pass them on :) Have a wonderful evening!

thank you and what a lovely coincidence! :yllol:
I do have some questions, especially about the Dolphin Club at USNA so ill def be inquiring you in the near future. A wonderful evening to you as well!

this is a great ray of hope! the "stuffing" part certainly feels good because of the bulky bfes that probably need a lot of paperwork fit into them. i just hope the "envelope" part could also be translated into packet and not an actual envelope (twE)! but let's all pray and hope for some good news fairly soon!

I heard the same "hear-say" from my mid--he was told a mass mailing went out on Tuesday :thumb:

were you at a weekend visit? this is interesting news that hopefully good news is on the horizon! It's interesting your mid told you that. did he seem positive when he gave you this news?

Terms 'mass mailings" and "envelope stuffing event" concern me. Especially since many more TWE's than BFE's go out late March and early April.

Just a thought and sorry if too negative.

Do you guys think that naps offers are still going out or do you think that the naps class is full?

Maybe realistic, but keep your chins up!

Well, yes, maybe negative, but maybe realistic. I am a "glass half full" person...so whichever way it turns out it will be for the best for all concerned. Really, those rejected will decide on plan B and then reapply or not, either way they are awesome candidates and an asset wherever they go.
On an interesting note, we are MD and members of the parents club, typically about 100 kids from MD make it into USNA each year (some years more, some years less...so this is anecdotal) and the fact is that a large number of MD candidates have not heard yet at all, either way...so as far as MD and maybe others I have seen on here whose MOCs told them USNA has not shaken out appointments yet this late....hope reigns until the arrival of the dreaded BFE. So, again! Smile everyone, keep stalking the mailman...but candidates: enjoy your senior year, enjoy your college year! Parents: enjoy the amazing stuff your kids are doing as they finish high school and prepare for graduation, lots of fun stuff and awesome accomplishments are coming to recognition in the next few weeks! As I get ready for my DD to perform in a lead role at her school play, I am ready to shed some tears on opening night, closing night and every performance in between! As she gets ready for prom, awards ceremonies, graduation...I wish I could slow down time (and want it to speed up to april 15 all at the same time, argh!!!). I know we all want those envelopes to get here...for closure on the USNA admissions chapter, whether BFE or TWE, we want it to end...I feel it too. However, if they need more time to more carefully consider our kids for admissions and taking that time gives them a shot at BFE, I say, take your time USNA admissions!!:thumb: Hang in there everyone!!

NAPS offers may be still going out, however if you are triple qualified w/nom you are not "officially" eligible for NAPS......over qualified. But I am sure there are always exceptions!

No, not at a weekend visit. We have a VVCFF (very close family friend) that is awaiting news, she just got her BFE from USAFA, but USNA is her first choice. So when mid heard that some BFE's "posted out on Tuesday", he inturn let us know. We didn't take much stock in it because I just considered it hearsay, but when it was mentioned here I thought I'd let you all know what we heard too.

Interesting and encouraging info on the MD appointments or more important lack of MD appointments to date.

As our kids say..."true that"....from a parents perspective time moves way to fast this time of year.
