There are two contacts on the top page of my application: USAFA Counselor and Local Liaison Officer.

-What exactly does the USAFA Counselor do? Should I contact him?
-Is the Local Liaison Officer my Admissions Liaison Officer? I think I brought this up a while back, but I didn't receive a definite answer.

This is my application status so far:
Your Status: Applicant* (your application is under consideration)
Your Application is: Competitive

Is the status like so for everyone who just applied?

Local Liaison is in fact your ALO
USAFA Counselor is exactly what it says. Your counselor at the academy.

1st: You don't need to contact anyone until the application process officially opens online. That will be around the end of June or possibly the beginning of July.

2nd: You normally only need to contact your academy counselor to verify that they received info that you sent or if you have a specific question about the application.

3rd: You can/should contact your ALO with any and all questions you might have. They should be your first source for help.

Are all files that have decent scores deemed competitive or only the competitive ones?

I had to read your question about 10 times until I understood what you were asking. "Are only soft athletic shoes considered sneakers; or only sneakers"?

If you're talking about the Pre-Candidate Questionnaire / Summer Seminar Application; that is a very MINOR look at your qualifications. It is very preliminary. Most people at this stage haven't even taken an official SAT/ACT test yet. All the info is "Self-Reported". Most of them will basically say you are competitive. Unless you reported having a 3.0 gpa. If you're above the MINIMUMs as per the academy's experiences; you'd be considered "Competitive".

However; when the "REAL" application process starts, you will most likely revert back to being considered an "APPLICANT" just like everyone else. You will then move up to being a "Candidate" if the academy believes you are competitive, (Based on OFFICIAL scores and transcripts); OR, once you receive a nomination. Anyway; don't think to hard about this. Wait for the OFFICIAL APPLICATION which starts around June/July. best of luck. mike....
