My son has compiled a list from a few different sources (EDHVoice) and others for essential items that new cadets should bring with them on R-Day:

1. Compression Shorts -Under Armour –Nike (Black -at least 4 or more)
2. Razor-Shaving cream
3. Lighter
4. Photos with frame
5. List of phone numbers of your friends/family
6. Chapstick
7. 100 ft green duct tape
8. Boxers-underwear
9. Long white socks
10. Gel soles for shoes
11. Neosporin/ icy hot
12. Hand sanitizer
13. Nail clippers
14. Sports watch
15. Q-tips
16. Good Shampoo
17. Sunscreen
18. Toothbrush
19. Band-Aids
20. Cleansing pads
21. Multi-tool or Leatherman with a NEEDLENOSE pliers.
22. Moleskin
23. Small red clip-on LED light. The kind that clips on a cap
24. Handi Wipes.
25. 100 dollars cash in your wallet, and extra money on debit card

Pretty good list! :thumb:

Speaking personally from last summer, the watch, the gel insoles, the moleskin, the cash/debit card, the picture frame, and compression shorts are a must. The others are nice-to-haves, but not necessary. Some of the things are actually issued (toothbrush, sunscreen) and others are available at the C-store (shampoo, athletic socks, lighter, bandaids, Q-tips, handi-wipes).

Did I read somewhere that you weren't allowed to show up with > $40 in cash?

It's actually $100 max.

Are the gel insoles for the boots or running shoes?
In the InstructionsForApplicants pdf, it also mentioned sunglasses. I'm deciding whether to bring them or not.

Speaking from the packet I was given for this coming year, you are allowed a maximum of 100$ cash.

Thanks. :thumb:

freedomturck, I talked to a plebe about sunglasses recently. He said that you could leave them at home because they can't be worn in any uniforms.... I really like mine though so I might still bring them.

Pack a Black Sharpie marker so you can mark all your issued items.

I actually used my insoles for my low quarters. Most of first detail, that's what you'll be wearing and standing in for extended periods of time as you wait in lines or seemingly pointlessly stand in formation.

You won't be allowed to wear the sunglasses, so you probably don't want to bring them, as they may be broken when your civilian bag is thrown, I mean, lovingly placed in storage for the summer.
