my son attended last year and there was no cost except for what appears to be the tradition of the pre-strains(you) to pay for pizza for the cadets in your room.
Okay this may be a dumb question, but does anyone know when/how we pay for STP at VMI? Will there be an email sent out, or a bill? Thank you in advance
Ironically, that's why I asked. I randomly opened up that tab, and saw the balance. Needless to say, I was very confused. haha I wish that was the actual balance. Coming from out of state, I dont think that I qualified for STP scholarships. Oh well, it is what it is
Oh wow, I hadn't seen that. Yeah, from what I have heard it is a great program. I'm looking forward to it! I will be going And I'm from Ohio. Where are you from?
I can definitely relate!! (28 school days left- not that I'm counting ) STP will be a good way to get either math or science out of the way; and learn a few ropes before matriculation.
OPPs your are right, I am confusing pre-strain with STP. They will let you know when you owe money, VMI is very good at that. Start getting your stuff ready for STP, there is a pretty extensive list to take with you
Pre-Strain? I don't know if I want to know And will they send us a list or do we just go with whats listed on the web site?
Open House visitors are called Pre-Strains. Freshman cadets in the Ratline will Strain. Straining (called Bracing at The Citadel for the "Knobs") is a rigid form of attention with your chin tucked in nice and tight. At The Citadel, visitors are called Pre-Knobs. VMI decided on Pre-Strain rather than Pre-Rat for some reason.

My DS from Maryland will be joining you all at STP and the Rat Line in the Fall. He has decided on VMI and just got an Institute Scholar scholarship to help with some of the cost. He is very excited to be going.
