I recently received my letter of acceptance to the USNA Summer Seminar for the summer of 2011 and had just one quick question. Should I go and get a buzz cut from my local barber shop, or do most kids attending keep their hair the length it is normally? My hair is only about 2-3 inches as it is, but I definately do not want to stand out from the crowd or hurt my chances in any away of getting into the actual Academy. Thank you in advance for any insight that you can provide.

I went to NASS in 2010 and there was no issue with hair lengths. The only way I was able to identify some of the guys in my squad was because of their shaggy hair. Yeah some of them got heat during mock indoc for their facial hair but it was all in fun and games. They don't expect you to have a buzz cut and some detailers may give you a harder time because to them that says you think you are already there. Just leave it at the length you are comfortable with.

Agree with above. Remember, it can be hot and humid in the DC area (even in June). You'll be sweating a lot. As long as you're ok with the length, you're fine.

One argument for getting a close cut before I-Day is plebe summer sun exposure. A scalp burn is no fun. You might want to give your poor head exposure to sunshine before you put it through July in Maryland.

I agree with NorCal IF this were a Plebe. For NASS, don't worry about hair length.

Oops. My bad. Thank you, 2012 mother.
I thought we were talking about plebe summer.
Got to quit skipping around the posts w/out careful reading.
