I am wondering about any heads up that I should prepare for beforehand. I do not want to be caught off guard. For instance, I recently heard that you are tested during Indoc to see what math you will be in. Anyone? :)

Yes you will be tested. Having a good memory helps too. As for preparing, just allowing all the yelling to roll off your shoulder and don't take it to heart. They are suppose to yell at you. No matter what you do, it won't be right so don't worry about it. Don't be the last one and don't be the first one. Just blend in.
Other than that, do a lot of sit ups, push ups, running and leg raises. You will be doing plenty of all of these.

You say you do not want to be caught off guard, but part of the point of being a plebe is being caught off guard. You will be tested physically, but most of the challenges are mental, not necessarily what you know, but how you react to new situations and whether you can get through times when you are "caught off guard." The best thing you can do is to roll with the punches and keep going. Good luck!

play the game, but remember that its a game.

as far as preparations... do pushups. run. its really not much you have to prepare for, endurance will just make it easier on you. there's not a whole lot of tricks and tips that'll make it easier on you, either. pack your stuff in ziplock bags, bring a bag thats easy to carry, etc, etc, etc. there's a hundred threads on this forum related to all that.

Hardest thing for my DS was the no phone, no computer, no access to his life as he knew it. But it's all part of making them into a Kings Pointer. Just remember that as you're going through it it's really tough but when you get through it (and you will) you will feel very good about yourself. My hat goes off to all the cadets that have gone through it!!! My DS has definitely matured over the last nine months!!! Good Luck to you.

UNSAID Motto

"KP is a hell of a place to be.....

and a hell of a place to be from...."

Be a Duck (let EVERYTHING run off your back), be a team player (especially
as a Plebe. Don't leave anyone behind...), know that 'this too shall pass', POSTIVE attitude, as said before: blend in and know that this will be the most difficult journey of your life.... and the absolute best journey of your life.

Good luck to you. It is hard to believe that 4 years have passed for my DD and only licensing stands between her and Graduation....she will tell you that she can account for every miserable and fantastic activity in the last four... :thumb:

Accept the fact that there will not be time to do all that is required of you. This is intentional. You must learn to prioritize. Given the choice between shining your shoes and studying for an exam.......STUDY! STUDY! STUDY!

That reminds me of the story my DS told me during finals week. His company was told to strip their beds and other things the night they were all studying for their finals. They all decided to suffer the consequences of disobeying so that they could keep on studying for their final. My DS passed his final.

KPmom2013 has it right! learn how to "be:" when off guard. How you adapt and be flexible are 2 of the most important skills in life no matter where you are in your career.

Yes, it is a game, a mind game. There is no right answer. You are a plebe; you will always be wrong. But also remember it all has a purpose. You may not understand the why, but accept that there is a reason for the system. That means don't treat obligations as something you can just blow off. Yes, given the choice between studying for finals and stripping your bed, pass the final! But do get involved with spirit missions (actually lots of fun), and when they need volunteers for a traditional ceremony, do it if at all possible. It will help you feel connected to the school and the entire regiment.

Always be properly respectful of the upperclassmen, but don't be completely terrified of them. Yes, you're a plebe or P/C and lower than dirt, especially during indoc. But during the school year, they will be one of your best resources for information and help.

Get involved in something - either a sport or an activity. It is a place to let off steam and to interact with other mids outside of the regimental system. Our DD found that being on the CC team really helped keep her sane and the team became like a family.

Because of this respect, my DS is now going deep sea fishing for his birthday. Leaving today and will fish all day tomorrow. He is going with 3C upperclassmates.
