Is membership in the AOG worth the $? I don't see the benefits being worth the costs. We are considering doing a class membership just for WebGuy. Any insight would be helpful as I am ignorant of what the AOG does.

This is just MY OPINION. I'm not a grad, so take it for what it's worth. Many of the trips that cadets go on, including some of the clubs, is funded in part by the AOG. The AOG supplements many activities that federal funding just won't provide. If you haven't checked out their website, I think you should.

I personally think it's worth it. We became a member for the 4 years that my son is there. We didn't want to buy a lifetime membership for our son until he got at least into his C2C or C1C year. You never know. Your cadet could choose to leave early. And when my son graduates, I'll probably not remain a member. But as part of our son's graduation present next year, among other things, we will get him a lifetime membership to the AOG. It will be about $650-$700. Somewhere in there. But I know that between certain trips, conferences my son attended, athletics, and all of that first year where webguy and everything else kept us in touch; I think it's worth it. When I think of how much money I saved on college for my son, it doesn't bother me to contribute.

But again; this is just my opinion. There may be some that haven't used any services from the AOG. And maybe their cadet doesn't feel anything towards it. Especially if they are already set in their mind to do 5-and-dive. But for me, it's worth supporting.

I am in complete agreement with Christcorp. We contribute to the endowment too as it helps build the facilities such as the athletic center your son and other cadets will enjoy. We purchased the Lifetime for our son and their are many workable payment options. There is know way to compare several hundred dollars here or a thousand dollars there when it comes to the savings on college.

As a slightly on topic question--I'm trying to purchase a WebGuy subscription for my family for when I go to BCT--When should this be purchased so the 4 years is from my C4C to C1C year?

I agree with the previous posts that a membership in AOG is a great idea. The AOG paid for our son's airline tickets to powerlifting meets, and also paid for lodging when they weren't able to stay with the host school's students. They do a lot of work and financial support "behind the scenes" for the cadets.

We bought the 4-year parent's membership, and I am sure that my wife got more than our money back in the 15% AOG discount at the gift shop.

At the end of our son's 4-degree year we bought him a life membership in AOG, and they even assured us that if something happened and he were to not graduate from USAFA, that they would refund the money.

DjSanguine- The Webguy access is a part of the AOG parent membership. Whenever you buy it, it is good through graduation.

I'm rather split on the AOG. They do a lot of great things, but I have some beefs with how they tend to operate. They pulled some strange stuff with my class, and distribute funding in some ways I don't agree with. I'm glad there is an AOG, but I've decided to make donations directly to the projects/clubs/teams that I want to support.
