Hello community,
I just registered for the NCAA clearinghouse and am quite happy that I finally managed to complete it but also worried because my application looks so...empty. Who else has applied for the NCAA and for which sport?

Regards,
Dave

I applied and got through for rifle. There really isn't much to the application. The main objective is simply to get qualified academically for Division 1, and get your eligibility/amateur status clarified.

The real target is getting recruited by the USMA Coaching staff for your sport. Since you are a junior now, you are able to speak with the NCAA coaches for any of the Service Academies (even though you may not communicate with civillian college coaches until senior year).

Good luck

I emailed my local rep to tell him about my address change and he told me he could no long help my printout said I was now a recruited athlete. I filled the online form out during my sophmore year and my local rep sent my current resume to the coach.

Now, without the recruitment, I am still competitive for admissions and I am also competing for the principle nomination.

Upon hearing this news, I was ecstatic. But how does this change my application process. I realize I still have to maintain good grades and definitely stay in shape and work hard in regards to soccer but is my admissions process easier now?

I spoke with the swim coach at USMA and he stated that being a recruited athlete did not make your application process any "easier". In a way, you've made your chances of making it into USMAPS higher compared to a candidate who is not a recruited athlete. That being said, I think doing your absolute best in everything will make you a much better candidate- a recruited athlete being one of them :)

What I am stressing out about my file is that I dont have have a steady history of swim clubs/ teams/ awards/etc. A majority of my records (awards, State qualification, etc) all came from my high school. does this affect my file at all (would the evaluators prefer that I swim at a club/team over a high school team?).
Also, I do not remember every single detail of my elementary/middle school years. Are those areas mandatory to fill out? It seems kind of pointless to me..
Thank you!

It does.
It gets you an LOA automatically if you are a recruited athlete (I' not sure about smaller sports but I know bigger sports this is fact). With that all you have to complete the rest of your application and you're in. All I had to worry about were my nomination interviews and even then I knew in the back of my mind that if it didn't work out, I would still manage to get a nomination elsewhere.

What is your definition of "smaller sports"? I just wanted to know if swimming was considered a big sport or a small one.
also, for the nominations, how did you know you could get it elsewhere? Maybe its because I am still a junior, but the nomination process is sort of scaring me..

I mean, I only knew that certain sports such as basketball, football or lacrosse actually had the ability to find some of their recruited athletes nominations. I don't want to get into too much detail. As for nominations, I know you are nervous and you should be; that means that this is something you care about. Just look the interviewers in the eyes and don't BS them, I'm sure you'll do fine.

I'm a bit uncomfortable with this post....

It does.

I would have to disagree that a recruited athlete will automatically get a LOA. I can think of several recruited athletes of 'major' sports who did not get a LOA.
Do some? Sure. Do all? No.

With that all you have to complete the rest of your application and you're in.
Again - I would disagree. Be medically disqualified and denied a waiver or fail the CFA or start failing classes and you won't be 'in'.

I hope that I have misinterpreted - but this comes across as a little arrogant to me. Maybe you are a 1 or 2 rate and the application process ran smoothly for you and if so - that's great! But I don't want all recruited athletes to think that your experience is the situation in every case.
Your situation is yours and not someone else's (Geez - I sound like the DoDMERB thread).
I understand what you're saying in your case, but to make blanket statements can be misleading to other candidates who are recruited athletes.

If you are a recruited athlete - you won't get much attention from your FFR. Once you are officially deemed a recruited athlete, the FFR will step back and ODIA will handle that candidate.

A candidate should always put forth the best file that they possibly can, recruited athlete or not.

I'm sorry that you were uncomfortable sir and I see where you're coming from. Like I said I didn't want to get into too much detail, what I did say was vague and open to misinterpretations. If he wants to hear the entire story so it doesn't blow up this forum he can private chat me.
