Any recommendations on travel to Fort Benning for Jump School?

I read somewhere that report time is 1000, meaning that if you have to fly, you cant wait until that morning. Fly into Atlanta or Columbus the night before and get ground transport in the morning?

Who is sending you? What do your orders permit?
 
Thanks, ScoutPilot. It's not me but my son, and I don't know what his orders are yet. I have to see somebody in Birmingham, and I was trying to figure out if I could accompany him part of the way.
 
Jump School

My DS is going to Airborne this summer too. Based on what he has told me, he must travel there on a bus with the other cadets from WP, and back again when done.

Anyone been to Jump School graduation? I think it may be possible to get there a day early and possibly see the 5th jump, based on various internet comments I've read. Can't decide whether to fly or drive all day to get there. Any stories appreciated!
 
My son is going to Airborne and has also been told that he will be taking a bus from West Point. We are driving him up the night before, so he can be there for the trip. Not sure how he is getting from Benning back to WP for Buckner. I think Buckner begins the day after his session of Airborne ends.

Yes, family can watch the final jump at Fryar Field. My father and grandparents came to watch. My grandfather, a veteran of 1st Ranger Infantry Company (Airborne) and a member of the Ranger Hall of Fame, pinned my wings on me at graduation.

This is a picture of my final jump that my father (a photo hobbyist) took. If you can go, go. There's nothing like seeing a jump for real and for most, it will be the last time they ever do it.

Bus transporation is provided to and from Airborne school. You have the option of getting there and back at your expense if you'd rather fly there from home or leave there straight home. Of course, it is late enough in the year that the paperwork is done so changing travel arrangements would not be possible. Just throwing it out there for those who might go in the future. If you leave near Fort Benning, private travel is sometimes better as far as spending more time home is concerned.
