Hello community,
I just spoke with my counselor today and he mentioned that my transcripts would not be "finalized" until mid September and early October. The reason being: AP test scores will not change my grades until then- directly affecting my class rank and cumulative GPA.
I wanted to send in my completed application file to USMA by August...so would USMA accept my updated transcripts by October?

Thank you!

I am sure they will accept an update. Based on what I hear, get your transcripts in as soon as possible, like as you leave classes this year if you are a junior.

Get everything done that you can and as many semesters in as possible. Make friends with your registrar and maybe it can get done a bit sooner

I understand. Thank you very much! :)
What I am hoping for is to send in my application as early as possible in order so I can possibly get a LOA...but sadly, my "pure" GPA (without grade bumps from AP test scores) will only be about a 3.4. After AP grades are submitted though, I believe my GPA will go up to 3.5-3.6 range.
Thanks for the input!
Dave

Admissions will update whatever you send them if you need it so just go ahead and send what you have. Then send the updates as they come in

I heard that in order to be considered for an LOA it is a tacit requirement that the transcripts and standardized test reports must be sent in. Is this true?

USMA2016- yes this is true. LOA is determined by your transcripts and your initial application. Someone correct me if i am wrong. I am fairly certain that there is a more in-depth response, but the biggest factor is your transcripts and how early you send it all in. again, please correct me if i am mistaken.
:)

Also, just a quick side note question:
my chemistry teacher does NOT write letters of recommendation for his regular chemistry class. He only writes them for his AP chemistry class. In such situation, is it alright for me to get a letter of recommendation from my previous biology teacher?
thank you!

Afaik you can get a recommendation letter from any HS teacher.

Also, yes, requirements for LOA are transcripts and Standartized Test scores. But I believe you must also submit class rank and School's Official verification of ECs?

Did you have physics? I was at USMA recently and someone at the admissions center said a chem/physics teacher's recommendation would work.

She also said that it was all online.. I don't know your chem teacher though, would he mind doing it online for you, would you think?

If you have any problem I would just run it by admissions, they'll help you out.

My understanding it is more of a series of questions and teachers are asked to score each question 1 to 5. If you ask your teacher and tell them where you are applying, I am sure they will help you. My son's teachers considered it an honor to be asked. One of them is very liberal and asked my son if he was sure that he wanted a military future...he said yes...she did it...and he received the appointment. She gave him a big hug when he told her the news.

Thanks for the information!
Are the english, math and science teacher letters of rec. mandatory? Can you get more letters (for me, a letter from my JROTC instructor would be nice along with some coaches)?

This is also a side-note question but how are AP scores judged by the academies? My APUS teacher told the class that colleges determine AP test scores as well as grades. Is this true for all the Service Academies? I am pretty sure I asked this question before....but I just wanted to be sure.
Thank you!

To reiterate what BOK said, from my understanding the "letters of recommendation" aren't letter per se. Rather, you submit the teachers' emails in the SSK and USMA emails them for them to complete an evaluation online.

No, you cannot use a biology course for recommendation. It must be from a physical science class (physics/chemistry). Someone asked this when I was at WP for a visit.

The candidate portal requires 3 and 3 only. Save up the coaches, ROTC, pastor, etc. for your letters of rec that will probably be requested by your MOC. Our MOC application required 3 letters of rec. My DS asked our pastor, head football coach and favorite teacher...his thinking was someone that has know him his entire life (spiritual), coach for leadership and teacher for academics.

Are you certain that biology teachers will not work? I am not doubting you, its just that Ive heard so many different answers regarding which science teachers to ask.

Thank you!

I'm sure in some cirumstances if your chem and/or physics teacher could not help you for any reason then I'm sure admissions would help you out.. just let them know what your situation is.

Thanks for the response guys! I just contacted my science teacher from freshman year who taught laboratory science. it all worked out :)

Can anyone verify the AP question that i asked earlier?
Thank you all very much!
