Hello. Brand new to the military so I'll have a lot of naive questions. My son will be going off the USAFA in June. So proud. We'll see him again Parents Weekend but wondering what the visiting rules are after that. Are parents allowed visit on weekends? If so, are Cadets allowed to leave campus? I'm guessing we won't see him again until Thanksgiving but am considering coming out (we're from Maryland) for another football game and just wondering if I'd get to see him! Thanks.

We visited our son last year for A day, Parents weekend, and Air Force navy football game. Plan ahead because he will have to you use one or two of his passes the only thing that could make it a sure deal because things can an do change is to fill out a triple s form but he must do that at least 30 days in advance. If Air Force wins that weekend everybody may get passes for the weekend though no gurantee. Hope I didn't confuse you and this helps. Best bet is to see him friday evening then go to the game on saturday and meet up eith him afterwards and spend the next 24 hours off the hill. These things depend alot on him,his academics, and squadron.

You can definitely see him -- whether he will be able to leave campus will depend on the weekend, his squadron, etc. If you are able to attend a home football game you will definitely see him. Each squadron hosts a tail gate before the home football games -- you can attend the tailgate with him (he will have to escort you into the tail gate area -- but that is easy to accomplish from the parking lot). The Colorado Parents Association also hosts a tailgate for all parents (where ever they may be from) before each game. During the game your cadet will probably get to visit with you -- maybe even get to sit with you at some point during the game (depending on where your seats are located). Cadets, even 4th years, are often able to get a pass after home games -- so that he may be able to go out to dinner, maybe even spend the night at your hotel -- again depending on the weekend, his squadron, etc. You can always attend religious services with him (some local parents see their cadet during Basic at church and spend some time with them on the Terrazo afterwards) -- To have the most time with him try to arrange your visit on a football weekend or on a Blue weekend (non-training weekend) (the Blue/Silver schedule will come out in the fall). Once he gets through Recognition, your options for weekend visits and his likelihood of getting a pass will also increase.

If he fills out a Triple-S (staff summary sheet) early enough, he could probably get a whole weekend off. Triple-S's at the academy are basically waivers for more passes or to leave when you might not otherwise be allowed to. Unless there is mandatory training, a football game, or he is on a bad probation, it should get passed.

We went out for a home football game in October for the columbus day weekend. Our son filled out an SSS form getting permission to spend the weekend with us. We picked him up to go to the hotel Friday around dinnertime and then we took him to the game (for the tailgate and for the game) and then he spent Saturday night and Sunday night with us at the hotel and didn't have to return to the academy until Monday at 7 PM. It was a nice break for him and we were happy to spend some time with him.

Do cadets get parent tickets for the parents weekend football game or should we buy them now?

Cadets will not get tickets for the parents. You can order them online yourself, but I would check with your state parent's group first. Most parent groups reserve a block of tickets for their group and you will be able to make arrangements with them. I know Texas has a few different parent's groups, but all of them have blocks of seats.

The National Capital Area parents club always gets a group of tickets also. They usually don't come out until June or July.
