I know it was just released but I'm interested, what are the '15 plebes thinking about the laptop options? Is the extra stuff worth it?

My son is getting the extra equipment. I do not believe that West Point would offer those items if they did not think they would be helpful. In addition, if they are purchased thru West Point they will be supported if something breaks.
My view - do not overthink the info from West Point. I spent 8 years at West Point (4 as cadet and 4 as instructor) They have many sharp people who are guiding the cadets in the correct direction. My advice - if they suggest something or make something available then follow their lead.

I don't plan on spending the effort to shop around for those extra stuff I may need, so I just went with the optional package.

Great advice from BigNick. This is one less thing you will have to worry about. My son saved me $50k per year choosing WP and I told him that I would pay for the extras. Besides, if you have to use the company printer you will have to leave your room...and may run into a upper-classman on the way to pick up your work. Make it easy...fly low and stay under the radar.

From what I've been told, this $500 just comes out of cadet account anyway....some cadets say they were just issued all this stuff on R-day and don't even remember having a choice.

That's because we didn't. None of the current classes did at least.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go in on this one. I would want to have minimally (in addition to the laptop, of course) some speakers and a printer, and the dock certainly is not a bad thing. Seems worth it to me.
