Hi Everyone!
What hotels do you all recommend for PPW? DD has said she would like a hotel with a pool. So all of the places right around the Academy are out--as far as I know none of them have pools.

Also, I know there is always the possibility of a friend joining our group or relatives stopping by (we are from NJ, so a few may come down).

Alas, the Residence Inn is already booked solid.

What other hotels are good for that weekend? Thanks!

If you'll have a vehicle ...

Hi Everyone!

There are a bunch of the chain places over on Riva Road ... all are quite decent, lower in price. Not sure which have pools. HI Express, etc. There are 3 or 4 of them in proximity ... about 2-3 miles to the Yard. The Hilton?? @ BWI always offers discount price for USNA fams. Go get 'em!:thumb:

Agree! We stay out on Riva Road most of the time, but for PPW, I would forgo the pool idea and try to stay close to the Yard. My DS thought he would like to swim too, but was so locked on during PPW and tired of water and exercising in general, that he didn't even notice that there was no pool! The biggest advantage you want during that particular weekend, is quick access to the Yard when you have to get your Plebe there. Traffic is horrendous! One can not stress this enough. I had piece of mind knowing that if we only got DS half way from our DTA hotel, he could hoof it if he had to...and mind you...he was in a boot as he broke his ankle! It is worth the price of admission if you know that your Plebe could comfortably "jog" to the Yard from your vehicle when stopped in bumper to bumper traffic. Also, worked out good that my husband could take the car and go off on his own and my daughter and I could stroll down to the Yard in our leisure for the activities we wanted to do. Most hotels will give discounts to Plebe parents and treat them very kindly. Good luck. The fun has just begun!

OK then...

Good Point about the plebes being a bit waterlogged by PPW--LOL.
So, that being said, which hotels are reasonable, comfortable, and close enough to the Yard? We have stayed at the Marriott and will be staying there for I-Day, but would like to stay someplace a bit more affordable for PPW. Thanks again!

For PPW we stayed at O'Callaghans. Got a good rate and they have a Parent's club for discounts.

We stayed at the Loews for both I-Day and PPW and found it very convenient. Also, regardless of where you stay, the Loews has a spa within the hotel. My son requested a massage during PPW. When I went down to pay, the waiting area had many Plebes doing the same thing. A nice splurge that he really appreciated.

I use hotwire.com when I want a downtown hotel. You don't know which 4 star you are getting, but it is Marriott, O'C, Westin or Loew's. I have stayed at Westin twice for 79 a night. Even during PPW.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and we got a suite, one with a kitchen. They have a pool, but since your DD can't lay around in her bikini, she would have to sit out in her issued blue suit (and it's not flattering no matter how cute your figure is), I doubt she wants to be seen in it. My DD also had the same thought, but once they find out that they can't put on their civilian clothes or bathing suits, the agenda changes. DD was worried someone would catch her OUT of her issued uniform stuff.

The kitchen worked out great, you can cook a lot of stuff at a hotel with only a cook-top and the pots and pans they have there. Never mind the budget, she wanted a home-cooked meal and this was the only way I could give it to her. We made spaghetti and meatballs and pancakes one morning and eggs, bacon and hashbrowns another. Yes, they have a breakfast downstairs at the hotel, but she preferred NOT to fight over the serving spoon for mass-cooked eggs!

The mids have the rest of their time to explore DTA (yes, they call downtown Annapolis, "D-T-A"!), so to not stay within walking distance is no hardship.

Traffic can be bad going back at 11pm, but we just studied a map and figured out where we could drop her off and she caught up to a bunch of other plebes and they walked back onto the yard.

THanks for the ideas!

Thanks all, for all of the helpful input. We actually have decided to stay in DTA and have reserved a hotel there--just so family members can stop in more easily.

Since we don't live too far away (2.5 hrs) we thought this was the best choice.:thumb:

Another piece of local knowledge - if you find yourself in Eastport, for a meal or whatever, the drawbridge goes up on the hour and 1/2 hour. Just remember that if time to get back to the Yard is getting tight.

We stayed at the Annapolis Sheraton for PPW ...... an easy walk to the Annapolis Mall for the Plebe(Plebes are forbidden to drive)......Plebe could meet squad-mates for a meal or movie on his own and walk back to "his" hotel room (we had 2 rooms with a connecting door) to sleep , check Facebook and/or watch MLB on ESPN.....I've stayed at Sheraton many times to visit the Mid....usually bidding on Priceline.com to save a few $$....lot's of restaurants in close proximity and free parking......Easy 9 min return to Gate 4 via US 50 ( except the final day of our '08 PPW when the infamous wreck on the Bay Bridge caused gridlock for hours :frown:and our Plebe finally bolted from the car 3 blocks from the Yard followed closely by mom and sis.....he made it to Bancroft with 10 min to spare thanks to some great plebe parents exiting the yard that made an emergency U-turn flung open their car doors and yelled to about 4 running Plebes to jump in :thumb: ) Also, Sheraton often provides a free shuttle van to the Yard for NAVY families during special events such as I-day and PPW.
