Just thought I would ask, has anyone received any letter from Cadet Command regarding a confirmation of scholarship acceptance. I remember receiving such a letter for my older son back in 2008, he needed to sign it and send it back. Are they still sending these letters out for this year. I just want to make sure something is not getting lost in the mail.

Thanks

we received a letter back in November, when our first notification of selection for his MOROTC scholarship was awarded, and then agin when his transfer was applied, but have had nothing since then...which, I'll admit, does worry me a little, as I would have thought there would be a boat load of paperwork to complete.

I should have mentioned that my son's scholarship was AROTC.

I agree, after such a stressful year you sure don't want something to get lost in the mail that could cause any problems.

I guess an email to CC might be in order.

We received my son's confirmation in mid to late May if I recall correctly (2009). You will get a lot of paperwork after that, but not from Cadet Command. The rest of it will be initiated directly through your son's ROTC Battalion.

Yes. My son was awarded a scholarship from the Mar 8th board. About one week after it was posted on the scholarship status website he received a confirmation letter in the mail that he had to accept/decline the scholarship and sign and parents signed. He could mail/email/fax it back. We scanned and emailed it back.

He also requested a transfer of that scholarship. He was emailed a letter stating that the transfer had been approved and he had to reply to the email to accept the transferred scholarship.

Hope this helps.

Thank you,

We received the same letter back in November after he received the offer from the Oct. Board. We took no chance with that one, we scanned and emailed, FedEx'd it, and mailed it, just to make sure.

The letter I was asking about was the one we should be receiving soon that asks him to confirm the scholarship a final time.

Thank you CadetMom777, That was about when my older son received his confirmation letter back in 2008. Funny thing, we never received any paperwork for my older son from his batallion, they just had him fill it all out when he started school. Younger son is attending the same school so I imagine it will be the same.

Sounds like we just need to keep checking the mail box. I think he will rest easier when the last I is dotted and final T is crossed.

Yes, I guess every school handles it differently. My son got a big package from his cadre over the summer (dental & medical records, beneficiary designation, etc.) by mail which he completed and mailed back, then he had another round of paperwork during his ROTC orientation week when he started school.

Once you confirm the scholarship you won't hear much from CC. From then on communications are with the ROTC battalion. I think everyone gets the contract to review over the summer along with other materials from the battalion so they are prepared when they arrive in the fall. I know some cadets last year recevied packets in May or June. My DD received her packet in August. It depends on the battalion and also how early/late the fall term starts.

Nothing yet. DS was awarded scholarship on the October board. When his battalion notified him of his award about 2 weeks after we heard from CC, they told him he'd get a confirmation from them in April, but we haven't heard anything. His status on the website still says they have his initial acceptance from the original paperwork, so I guess he's still ok so far!

I think it was mid May last year when we got the confirmation letter from CC making sure you were still using the scholarship at the school of intent.

My son received a letter dated April 8th, 2011 directing him to complete his DODMERB physical and told him the doctors to see. What does it mean when his status at AROTC still says:

You are currently an active eligible applicant for an Army ROTC Scholarship. If all of the items below have been received then we have everything in order for your file to be reviewed by the Board.

I thought all boards were complete for the year. I am trying to understand this process but it is frustrating when I see other post that say their status show them awarded a scholarship "pending DODMERB qualification". We have received nothing from Cadet Command and the contact us link on the status website does not work.

VMI-Dad,

I know that this year was a bit different when it came to the Dodmerb Physicals. Usually you did not receive the Dodmerb letter unless you have been offered a scholarship.

This year after, the first board, many applicants received the Dodmerb letter telling them to schedule the exams prior to the board meeting and prior to any scholarship offer.

I believe there were a few that received the Dodmerb letter and did not receive a scholarship offer.

It does seem a bit odd that you would receive this letter so long after the last board met and offers sent out.

A couple questions:

Has your son already accepred to a college.
Have you talked to the ROTC battalion
Is your son planning on signing up for ROTC and compete for a campus scholarship

If your son is still planning on enrolling in ROTC he will at some point need to be qualified through Dodmerb.

I would call the battalion at the school he is going to and ask what the letter means. I would also go ahead and schedule the exam appointments and go through the process.

Last year there were applicants that received calls as late as July offering them a Scholarship, most were 3 year. If you have the Dodmerb exams completed and he is Medically Qualified it will mean he would be able to contract right away and would not have to wait for Dodmerb.

I hope this helps a bit, It has been a very different year in regard to the Scholarship process.

Jcleppe:

He was accepted to VMI on early decision back in December, I have not talked to the ROTC Battalion at VMI.

He does plan to enroll in AROTC when he gets to VMI. He reports July 5th for their Summer Transition Program.

He has completed his DODMERB Physical and is waiting on his Dentist to complete the orthodontic questionaire that DODMERB requested because he has braces. The top braces were remove last fall and the bottoms are due to come off next month before he reports.

Friends and family who have dealt with ROTC in the past all stated that DODMERBS were precursors to final scholarship, so we were happy to see the letter, but are now frustrated.

VMI-Dad,

Sounds like you've done all they have asked.

I would call the VMI Battalion soon before school is out and find out what they have to say.

I believe the offer letters went out sometime around April 21st or so. Those offered have 30 days to accept or decline the offer. I would imagine after that date the individual Battalions will have a better idea as to what funds they may have available for campus scholarships. Having your son get in touch with the ROO and PMS at VMI, if for no other reason but to keep his name fresh on their minds, would be a good idea.

Good luck to your son.
