Wow! This IS worthy of being a sticky!! Thank you very much!! My DS will have a good "measuring stick"... thank you especially for posting the requirements the Army has/vs. the stats of this year's scholarshp winners. All of the links will be helpful to him, too, as he learns so much more about how it all works!!

The payment for CLIP was explained as $250 per credit hour to us. My son is taking Beginning Arabic next month which is 5 credit hours. He was told that therefore he would receive $1250 after he passed with a C or better.

Well done, and thanks for the multiple links to my blog. Waiting with baited breath for all this stuff to change soon, since this process is like nailing jello to a tree, but for now this is a great snapshot of the process as it currently exists.

My son took the 5 Credit Beginning Arabic class the first semester of this year. Have your son make sure the Admin person in the cadre fills out all the paperwork correctly and submits everything on time, The paperwork can get a bit complicated.

Son did receive the $250.00 per sredit hour, on thing to remember is that when the Army pays $1000.00 or more at one time there are Fed. Income Taxes taken out. If he happens to be going out of state and the state has an income tax they will take that out as well. Since most cadets don't make that much taxable income in a year they will most likely get all but SS and Medicare dollars back as well as state taxes.

Just thought I would bring that up, son was a bit surprised when a large chunk was taken out up front.

Clarkson,

You are so right, we thought we had the process figured out from wneh our older son went through the Scholarship process in 2008, only to find out the whole thing had changed the next year.

Thanks for the info. His PMS instructed him to have their HR person fill out the paperwork and that she would submit it all after he passed the class. I will be sure to let him know that taxes will be taken out.

Thanks everybody for the kind words
But it's not a solo effort
Other members of this site contributed as well
And hopefully many more will as things progress and change

GoJack,

Nice Document.

I don't want to change anything by making additional notes myself, you did such a nice job.

One thing I noticed.

I believe they have now combined BOLC II and BOLC III together, eliminating the need to attend two seperate courses.

You might want to add a small section about how a scholarship can be lost due to:

Injury
Legal problems such as MIP's or excessive speeding tickets
Failure to keep the min. grade standards. I believe Total CGPA 2.0 and CGPA 3.0 in MS Classes, cannot receive less then a 2.0 in any MS Class.
I saw it mentioned that keeping the PT min. score was required.

Also a scholarship awardee can lose the scholarship prior to arriving at school for legal problems or injuries mentioned above as well.

If I missed it and this was included I apologize in advance.

Again a very informative read for all future applicants, lets just hope they don't go and change everything again for next year.

Jcleppe,
(and everybody else)
It's not mine, I just started the ball rolling
6-12 people have made various changes so far
some minor - some major
It's not a fixed - set in stone deal
The only way it stays relevant is if Y'all help keep it up to date
Dive-in and add/change/correct/edit/alter whatever you think is needed

If you look over the 'free room and board' sticky it became unwieldy and unusable over time..
It must be in a update-able format to stay relevant. (sorting through 172 posts of corrections is just silly)

I'm hoping someone figures out a way to incorporate this type format into the stickies...
I'd be happy to help (HINT HINT)
Google docs are easily published as web pages,
and the more informative and useful you make a website,
the higher it moves in Google's rankings - higher traffic counts

Just thought I would bump this up so it doesn't get buried on the next page.

Looking for clarification, is the Army ROTC stipend paid by academic yr, or for 9 months or 10 months? I have seen all in three various places.

A link to the relevant Reg would be great

^^^
Fixed, Thanks guys

Now reads;
LIVING EXPENSES (STIPEND)
Army ROTC scholarships provide monthly living allowances for each school year. Stipends are received over the academic period while the cadet is attending classes (partial months are pro-rated, maximum annual stipend is for 10 months). You earn certain amounts depending on your level in the Army ROTC program;

1st year $300 per month
2nd year $350 per month
3rd year $450 per month
4th year $500 per month

any information regarding GRFD scholarship?

Near the bottom there is a small section;
SMP / GRFD SCHOLARSHIPS
with a few GRFD links in the links area

If you come across any other good GRFD info,
please share, it seems to be in short supply.
