Running at SLS

Does anyone know what the running will be like at SLS?

Last year, other than running to and from the PT areas, we had one formation 'run' (really more like an accelerated walk) that was about 1.5-2 miles if I had to guess. Not bad.

I can confirm what Mtnman said, we ran to & from the PT areas (maybe half a mile each way), and then there was a 2 mile run that I remember being *really* slow.

what about the run for the CFA? is it a normal 400m track or a trail?

I've been wondering the same thing...

I've been training on a two-mile cross-country track with hills and what not so I'm wondering what we take the actual CFA 1-miler on

The CFA mile is a very flat stretch of paved road right next the Hudson. The only downside is that it is also next to a water treatment plant and the smell got to a lot of the candidates when we were running it. People were puking all over the place.

Its where the cadets do their PT tests...might as well get used to I guess

Wow, it can't really be that bad. It's just a little smell...

Oh yes it can be that bad. I ran a 5k two or three years ago in the June heat of Florida. At about the 1.5 mile mark, we ran past a Krispy Kreme. The scent was definitely vomit inducing.

During cross country and track season, we always went on 6 - 10 mile runs. At about the 2 and 8 mile mark, we ran past a bread shop. Every time I ran by, they were baking this bread that smelled wonderful. But when you are running your hardest and you feel super tired, that smell will kill you. Occasionally, on easier days, a bunch of us guys would bring money and go to the bread shop during the run. Overall, smells of all sorts can affect you while running, mentally or physically.

Wow, that's incredible! I've never known that. I'm so used to running in residential neighborhoods and tracks that I've never had to deal with smells!

Moral of the story, run past vomit-inducing places in preparation for SLS.... Haha it sounds pretty stupid out loud, but I understand it can be unpleasant in the moment

I'm in cross country and track and in the summer I run a 5k race called the S**thouse 5k because it begins and ends next to a sewage treatment plant. That's always a fun smell to start and finish with!

wow...ive never thrown up during a run. this will certainly be a great experience :)

quick side question: how many shoes should we bring? the list said 2-3 but i only plan on bringing 1 for running and another for "casual events" (classes, etc).

The stench really didn't effect me that much tbh...it just was there. It really just depends on the person.

For shoes, you'll want a pair to go with the khakis and then your running shoes. You may want a second pair of running shoes if you have them in case your shoes get wet or something like that. The big thing really is just to make sure you have extra socks/underwear then anything.

sounds great! thanks!
as for the khaki pants..they did not specify the type. are they khaki shorts or actual long pants?

Yea bring both because if it rains, it can get cold, but the shorts are a lifesaver when its 90 out
