hello community,
USMA's SLS program is just around the corner for session 1! i am very excited but also anxious to find out what the experience will be like. I double checked what i needed to bring to SLS and what to wear but still had a few questions.
are there photographers who will take pictures during the SLS program? also, what should I wear on the first day to USMA SLS after I arrive in Newark?
This may sound like a very dumb question but are we allowed to wear sunglasses if necessary?
Thank you!

Some of the cadre will take pictures. My cadre was pretty cool and took a bunch of pictures on military day and shared them with us afterwards which was nice to have the proof of the memories to show back home. That's probably squad dependent although they do make a video thing at the end that has random pictures of different squads to recap the whole week which they show to the parents at the graduation speech thing at the end.

For clothing, wear something comfortable but looks decent - khaki's and a collared shirt would be a good idea most likely. Depending on what time you get there, you'll have a chance to go through the mini R-day stations they have set up (when I say mini, it really is mini, but it was fun while it lasted). You'll change into the uniform top and khaki's or PT uniform depending on your squad anyways soon after you show up.

As for sunglasses, I'm not really sure. I want to say that some of the kids wore them, but it wasn't a majority, and again, probably depends on your cadre. I didn't wear them, and I'll defer to someone who actually remembers more on that front.

Thanks!
For the picture question, I was just wondering because my family is really eager about the whole session and want to know (and see) what I did at SLS :)

Yep np, that's the same reaction I had. Getting teh pictures from my cadre was awesome cause I got to show my friends what I had done for a week.

well thats a relief. :)
Another concern of mine regarding the pictures was because I promised my JROTC unit that I would give a presentation on my SLS experience with powerpoints (aka LOTS of pictures!) hahaha

Well don't worry about things that you can't really control. Bring a camera of your own, and when you have free time, even if its just before or after, you can take pictures of the campus. You'll figure out when its okay to have the camera and when its not anyways when you get there. Its great you're excited, but make sure you relax and enjoy high school and have some fun at home and at SLS :)

Sunglasses will most likely not be allowed unless everyone has them. You may be candidates, but uniformity is still key. You won't need them most of the time anyways.
