I have made my schedule for Sophomore year and I am stuck between taken JROTC 2 or AP World History

JROTC is a great program and has a lot to offer, but I know that you dont have to be in JROTC to go to the Military Academy, which wouldnt ruin my chances, just help them. Also it is a extra curricluar activity, which is probably my weakest link.

The main reason I want to take AP World History is because it is an AP course. I also like history in general so its not like I am forcing my self to take it.

I am stuck on which would be more benefical to me when it comes to completing my profile. Any advice would help.

Well I have done both. If you do JROTC, you should become a leader in the program, maybe on staff or company position. AP World would only help in the academic category and may possibly help you validate. As you said extracurriculars are your weakest link, I would do JROTC. There are many other APs out there besides World and many more you can take next year.

Agreed. I also like to think from a potential point of view, and like to see what options each can offer me.

JROTC - this can help with a variety of leadership positions, community service, physical fitness, etc.

AP World - pretty much only contributes to academic rigor.

AP World can be a double-edged sword though. Let's say you're a straight-A student and you receive a B in this class. This can potentially bring down your GPA, which can result in a lower class rank, which is FAR more important than a single AP class.

In my opinion, JROTC is also the better option. I'm sure you can obtain an A in the course, which will boost your GPA / rank. I would also try to avoid thinking that the class is an "easy A", because I'm sure it is much more challenging once you hold a leadership position.

Actually obtaining a B in AP classes will have the same affect as you getting an A in a regular for your GPA. That's what my counselors told me.

And JROTC would help a lot with, Community Service, leadership (one of their 3 catagories or something, which is Academics, Leadership, and Athletics (right??)) and fitness. So go with JROTC, it's great :)
