I'm headed to the first session of the WP SLS this year and I've been training for the CFA. I can meet or exceed all the averages for everything else, but I havn't tried the basketball throw portion yet. What do you all think is the best way to train for the basketball throw? It seems like kind of an odd skill to have, so I'm not sure if my other training (just doing lots of push-ups/pull-ups/running/core etc.) will cover it.

I've trained for the basketball throw by simply throwing a basketball against the wall in PE class. I start by simply throwing it as hard and high up the wall as I can (while standing) and I eventually went down to my knees and continued throwing it. When my arm started to get sore I switched to a women's Bball to keep the same throwing motion (I found I started to use bad form when using the men's ball for while). But it's the pullups that I'm struggling with do you have any other suggestions for them?

With a lot of calisthenics, the best practice is just doing the exercise A LOT.

Buy a door-frame pull-up bar and do pull-ups all day. However, if you're having trouble doing a single pull-up, assisted pull-up bars at the gym and doing dips help too.

Thanks for the advice. I can do a couple (4-6) before failing, but it seems that I am just not improving in that category like I have for pushups, sit ups and the other exercises.

What's the purpose of the basketball throw anyway? just curious..

Probably to measure the raw power one can produce from his or her upper body.

To test your upper body power
