What is the pay/salary of a second lieutenant and does that new pay grade start immediately upon graduation?
How long do the graduates have until they report to their new assigments and is there any "common" or traditional group vacation or activity that most of the graduates do together before reporting? Thanks.

There's base pay, but then you have to add in housing money and any other pro pay... And a lot will depend on where you live and are stationed. Let's just say that with MOST entitlements, that the 2nd Lt is going to make around $41,000 on the low end, to around $50,000-$55,000 higher end. And yes, the pay starts immediately after graduation.

The graduates get 60 days of vacation before reporting to their first duty station. (They are getting paid during this time). They vacation wherever they want, and with whom they want. There's nothing official or organized about it at all.

a lot of graduates travel together. Florida, Vegas, backpacking around Europe. I went to Europe last summer with 3 friends, and we ran into over a dozen other grads who we hadn't intended to meet up with. It was the most amazing month ever.

Pay per month:
Base ~ $2700
BAS ~ $223
BAH is where it ranges. Places like TX with lower costs of living are ~600-700 a month. High COL areas like the northeast and CA are about ~$1750 a month and include COLA which is around another ~$60 a month. That's for a single and not prior enlisted person.

Pay (base and BAS) begins upon graduation. BAH will be travel/USAFA located until they reach their new base upon which they receive that BAH.

BAS/BAH are tax-free. With health/dental benefits plus the tax-free chunks, new LTs are in a low tax bracket with significant income. Not rich, but very comfortable.

Does this apply to all newly commissioned second lieutenants, regardless of whether they graduated from an academy or an ROTC program at another school?
