What is the timing like for the cadence pull ups? Is there a certain time you go up and down?

Thanks!

it's on your timing

When your chin rises above the bar, the grader is suposed to announce the repetition number then you can come down.

When you arm is full extended, the grader is supposed to give the command of "up" then you go up

Just make sure you practice in cadence. Fully extend your arms to a dead hang and make sure your chin is above the bar before you go down.

oh so they dont say "up down up down" by their own speed? Its based on your chin going above the bar and your arm extending completely?

Ah. so basically, if you're doing it correctly, you can go at your own pace then..
I misunderstood the whole "cadence" portion and believed that I had to keep up with the pace.

Thank you very much! I feel very relieved :)

me too! i was worried that they'd make you hold your chin above the bar for like 100 seconds before letting it down

The cadence is at your own pace. The grader will just instruct you when to go back up and down to make sure the candidate goes through the full range of motion.

when you run the mile, are you allowed to carry your own timer? for each event, is the admin allowed to tell me how much time i have remaining (ex: push ups)

I wish we were allowed to use music devices for the run :/

Well you COULD sing...

But as a runner once told me, "1 mile is basically a sprint". To achieve your best, you'll probably reach near your max Cardio Frequency during a few moments... during which you should not be able to talk.

Yes, you can have your own watch. For most stuff in the Army (like the APFT) the timer usually says start and counts off 30 second intervals, so 1:30, 1:00, :30 left.

yepp... it would pump me up to run and help keep track of time too..

Yeah, 1 mile isn't really long enough to listen to music. You'll want to be concentrating on going fast not keeping pace (unless you regularly the 1600 in track or something).

Some of my "pump" music tracks are roughly 4-6 minutes so it gives me a good idea of how far I am or how fast I need to run.
On a side note, how will we know how far we have ran? are there markers located near the track? Its one thing running around a track 3 times knowing that the last lap would be the end of the mile-- but if i dont know how much further I have to run, i might lose my pace and freak out...
thank you! :)

It depends on where the course is run this year. The normal two mile course is just a there and back for one mile, so that's how you know, but it's usually not run on a track while at West Point.

I think the thing that will help me for the mile run for this is the fact that in track, my main event is the 1500. Which is only 100m less than a mile.

In reference to the mile be sure you practice running the mile after doing all your events because you may be surprised how tired you are. I didn't practice doing that and my mile time was a whole minute slower then I go fresh usually I run 5:30-5:45 on my CFA I ran a 6:45!
