Ok, so I just received my SAT scores from the May test and just wanted feedback if these are good enough because I can't take them again because I need to take the subject tests for civilian colleges. I also believe that these are going to be the best scores I will probably receive. I know no one will know if they are competitive for my district or not. Is it true that USNA does not look at the writing score? Thank you for any feedback.

March SAT
Reading: 700
Math: 700
Writing: 610

May SAT
Reading: 750
Math: 740
Writing: 640

Those are very strong. I wouldn't retake them. However, please remember that SATs/ACTs are but one element of the equation. I've seen students with 1550+ SATs (math/verbal only) receive turndowns.

A good way to compare your scores to previous classes that were admitted is to go to the USNA's admission page and view the "Class Portrait". The current info listed is for the Class of 2014. The SAT mid 50% is Verbal 570-690 and Math 600-710. That means 25% of the entering class had scores higher than 690 and 710 (that is were you fall). I suspect Class of 2015 will have higher numbers due to the number of applicants. To USNA1985's point, view all the other statistics. While they may not include everything, they do paint a pretty good picture. Good luck.

Nice, necessary, not sufficient in and of themselves. 800 is best. Keep plugging.

If time and especially money are not an issue, you can certainly retake them. However, in all honesty, I'm not sure the marginal benefit of higher scores -- assuming you'll get them -- outweighs those costs.

However, you should put the time you'd normally spend prepping for and retaking standardized tests into something productive, such as studying for school classes, working, volunteering, playing organized sports, etc. Don't just sit around and play video games.

I definitely don't have the time and money to retake them again. I need to worry about SAT subject tests for my civilian schools that I will be applying for. I understand that this is but one piece of the puzzle and I am definitely busying myself with varsity sports and volunteering as well as my other academic pursuits. Speaking of sports, just placed 3rd in javelin for round one (just group 4 of NJ) of the State Championship :thumb:
