In case they have leave (one per semester for plebes) on a weekend when there is no bus, what is the best route by public transport to EWR? I noticed that 2010 Christmas bus schedule did not have any on Sunday after the last TSEE either.
If there is no bus for it then there is likely no TEE late enough to put you in that bus.
Keith,
On weekends without buses cadets typically take the ferry accross the Hudson into Garrison Train Station then take the train to Grand Central from where they take a bus to their respective airports.
I have heard that there are busses that shuttle cadets from the local airports to West Point, but what if a flight is delayed and a cadet misses the last bus to the academy? (Say a cadet was a returning after Christmas or Thanksgiving break)
Are there any other options for a cadet to get to West Point from Newark (or JFK, etc)?

I checked and TEE's go through Saturday and the buses run through Saturday which is great if they only need to fly somewhere on the east coast or other short haul. That is a large part of the class. If they are flying long haul, like in our case to Hawaii, the flights leave in the morning so he'd want to depart Sunday morning, but there is no bus on Sunday. I checked and he can stay in the barracks Saturday night. Otherwise, he could take the charter bus Saturday and stay in a hotel at the airport but that is expensive so he is better off staying in the barracks and taking the train on Sunday as long as he can get there on time.

He could find some friends in similar situations and see the city for a bit the night before or perhaps just stay in the airport. You don't really NEED a hotel room. I've stayed in airports overnight in instances where I had a 0600 flight. While slightly boring, it saved a lot of money. I know I will likely be doing this once my Beast is over since I will be leaving the country for a few weeks so my flight doesn't leave until the next morning.
If you feel a hotel is neccessary then there is a place in New York City that caters to servicemembers for a really low price. I don't know much about it since I have not stayed there myself so someone else could pitch in on that.
