Graphing calculators

While I know that we are not allowed to have graphing calculators in class or for tests, are we allowed to use them on our own time (such as during homework)?
 
You shouldn't, simply because you can't on tests. Do your homework without them to be better prepared for tests.
 
You can't use graphing calculators in class? That seems improbable. I'm pretty sure in the BFE for the prep school it says to bring a graphing calculator. You will definitely be allowed to use graphing calculators in calculus and physics and ****.

Unless things have radically changed (not), most 4 dig and 3 dig core courses do NOT allow graphing calculators on exams. Many upper level courses are fine with it.
 
My son started this year in Calc 3 (and then Diff Eqns) and was not allowed to use a TI-89 but was allowed to have a TI-84 (which is still a graphing calculator). I'm not sure what the rules are on Calc 1 & 2 though.

nope... no graphing calculators... this aint the prep school
 
Tell em the way it is PackerFan. I always have enjoyed watching the wannabees during my tenure here.
 
I am an aero major and a rising firstie. I have never used a graphing calculator in all of the classes I have been in.

For Calc 1 & 2 and for Physics you may only use the issued "honorlator" (ie the very basic TI-30). For graphing in Calculus, you use "Calctool" online.
 
DD was accepted to prep school and you can't use the T89 but you can use T84. At least that is what it says in the package.
 
I brought my TI-89 with me. I wasn't really able to use it much. If I could use the calculator (like in Calc 3), the tests were made that the 89 didn't really give me any advantages over other technologies.
 
If you are going to be a technical major, then you will definitely use a graphing calculator. I am a physics and math major and I have been allowed to use my TI-89 on almost every majors test (in both majors) and as much as I want in class. It is very rare for you not to be allowed a graphing calculator on homework but it happens occasionally.

Find out what calculator you will be allowed to use on tests and use it to do the homework/study for those tests (it will probably be honorlator, any, or none)
