We are staying at Historic Inns of Annapolis and plan to walk to the academy on I-day. Report time for DS is at 9:15am. Can we enter through Gate 8? It looks closer to Alumni Hall than from entering through Gate 1. Any other suggestions/tips?

Thanks.

Try Gate 3. Much closer. Opens directly onto the Ceremonial Area (Stribling Walk) from Maryland Ave. Gate 8 is most definitely much farther when you take into account the route you have to take. Especially from State Circle.

I'm sure it would still be closer to get in through Gate 1 (versus Gate 8) if you can't get in at Gate 3. You can drive or walk by on "I-day-1" to be sure whether 3 is open during construction.

Here's amp link if you don't have one:

Gate 3 would be first choice if open. It is walk in only. If closed, Gate 1 is an easy walk to Alumni Hall past the Chapel and down the garden path. Gate 8 is a long, long walk. I think you have drive on privileges for I-Day and can go through Gate 1 drop off, park at stadium and Buss back? Just checked and FAQ said Gate 3 is closed for construction.

You're right about drive-on privileges (for drop-off only, no parking except with DoD sticker) on I-day.

Based on our experience, once Plebes-to-be get within a block of Alumni Hall, they get rushed inside, even if it's not their appointed time. The round trip time for driving to the stadium and busing back can take an hour or more, so say good-byes at drop-off if you do it this way. They will most likely be inside when you return.

Last year saw many whole families arriving on the shuttle buses from the stadium. Then its just a matter of milling around until your plebe-to-be can't stand it any longer, gives you one last hug and walks past the barricades and enters Alumni Hall.

Based on conversations with recent plebe parents, it is much easier to park at the stadium and take the shuttle, than it is to try to drive through the Yard on I-day morning. (Assuming you are not close enough for it to be reasonable to walk.)

Also, parnets should be aware that there will be representatives of the Class of 1965 available in the tents on Worden Field to provide refreshments and discuss the "Another Link in the Chain" relationship they will have with the Class of 2015.

Shall I drop him off first or the whole family park at the stadium and take the bus.

If we take the bus then what time we should be at the stadium for 9:15 report?

If you drop off your son and then park, you run the risk of having him already have entered Alumni Hall by the time you return. I would leave an hour to get from stadium to Yard but that's me (I am the one at the airport at least two hours before a flight.)

Congratulations!!
