Greetings,

I have lurked around the forums for a few weeks without registering, trying to get as much information possible about SA's and The Citadel. I just wanted to let you guys know that I have been academically accepted into The Citadel. This makes me very ansy on the inside considering I was born and raised in Southern California.

It will be a very big change for me, but I hope it pays off in the end. Does anyone know if cadets are allowed to own cars? Any advice to cadet life? Seriously, I could use all the advice I can get. :thumb:

Thank You!

-Omar

Hey Omar!

You can have a car at the Citadel in your second year.
My son will be in the 2012 class also, we are from South Carolina. He was academically accepted back in November and he just recieved his medical qualification last month. He did go to the overnight visit in January and that pretty much sealed the deal for him ( over the Naval Academy even though we are still waiting to hear from them and he went to summer seminar)
If you'd like to get in contact with him just send me a PM and I will have him give you his info. I am usually the one on this forum..He uses Facebook and Myspace.
ALSO, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Thank you for the congrats! I have just realized how quickly all the form deadlines are approaching and I'm trying to make appointments in a hurry. Just a quick question, smoking in uniform is prohibited, correct?

Oh no no, I'm just talking about the medical examination which I haven't done. And they already stopped the overnight visits so I can't get a visit but I think I can still do the Friday visit, which I'm going to fly all the way from California for! :thumb:

Did you decide VMI or Citadel? I hope Citadel! Maybe I'll see you there.

i haven't done a physical either. are the deadlines coming up? aren't they just in may?

i did an overnight visit of vmi, and that was just great. i'm going to do a friday visit of the citadel too i guess since i didn't do the sleepover thing there. which friday do you think you are going to? it's closer for me, but i think i'm going to have to fly too since i don't think my dad will be interested in driving me from virginia to south carolina.

i'm not decided yet. my top choice is still vmi, but i haven't had a chance to look at citadel. did you apply to vmi too? i also got into virginia tech, north georgia state college and university and norwich university, so i am going to be taking a look at everything before making my final decision. just want to be sure i made the right choice.

May 1rst deadline.

I looked at both VMI and The Citadel. Read their history, etc etc. Keep in mind I am NOT a High School student. I am actually a Freshman in college so I am a transfer student to the Citadel. During High School I didn't give a fly about school. I was a smart kid, just didn't want to "do the work." Things changed once I got of out of High School. At the community college I currently attend I hold a 3.85 GPA, Dean's List, Honors student, and so on. I decided to get a hold of my life and make something of myself.

I looked into military schools and I was considering West Point but I thought the chances of getting in were slim so I looked at the Citadel, VMI, Norwich, etc. I am not saying these are second rate schools since I looked at them after West Point, but I just felt I had a better chance of getting into these schools. Once I read the history of The Citadel, I knew that this was the school I wanted to go to. It's rich history, pride, etc. I don't want to be political/history and I don't want to get into a debate, but events such as Fort Sumter really showed me the audacity of the pride that must exist in the halls of that school and the cadets that have walked in them.

Then I watched the videos on youtube. Hahaha. I just set my mind to the Citadel. Plus, if I'm going to go across the country for four years, I figured South Carolina was a great state to experience something new!

I'm not 100% sure on when I'm going to do the Friday visit but it will probably be next month. We should coordinate or something because I'm definitely not going to be a fish out it's bowl when I'm over there. And since you're from Virginia it might be kind of similar.

I'm going to the Cid as well (class of 12). Hope to see you there.

Does anyone have the number with which I can make my enrollment deposit?

Thanks!

number? i went back and checked the forms i was sent by the Citadel and there were no numbers. only an address to send a check. do you need the address? didn't you get the forms?

Ah, well, I received my academic acceptance letter and certificate but it said that they would send me all the other forms etc. soon. So I haven't received it in the mail but I want to make my deposit now. Would you mind posting or PM'ing me the address? It's $400, correct?

i was wrong. they sent so much info to me, all in separate letters. one of them actually has a one-page invoice. the address on the invoice is:

The Citadel
Office of the Treasurer
Charleston, SC 29409

but i think you should wait. because on the invoice is your CIT#. and it says "For proper credit, return this portion with your remittance"

so unless you already know your CIT# (probably some student id or something), you should wait until you get your invoice.

also, where did you get $400? $400 is for early decision, which i guess you didn't get or else you would have heard already your decision in the fall. regular decision is $300. that's also what my invoice has as well.

last thing is that i'm a little nervous now having looked over the forms because one of them says that medical forms will be only accepted until the class is full even if this happens before May 1. yikes. they definitely are putting pressure on ppl to make a fast decision. this is almost as bad as virginia tech corps of cadets telling me that i give up my emerging leader scholarship unless i accept my admission offer with them soon! what happened to may 1st being the date for every college? lol....

Yeah the whole "until the class is full" thing has got me pretty pressured too. When I called my local doctor to get my physical and all that out of the way I was hounding them for an early appointment date hahahha. Although I'm worked up about getting in for sure, I think it's one aspect of El Cid's marketing techniques. Hahaha. Or maybe i'm just saying that to make myself feel better. So you haven't made a decision yet?

Go El Cid!

it may be marketing. because you got to figure that half the ppl that apply to the citadel also applied to vmi or another sr. military college. and so there are going to be a lot that turn down their offers. but on the otherhand, i wonder if the citadel makes alot more offers than they have room for knowing that many students will decide to go elsewhere, and so this whole medical form thing could be their way of being sneaky and just doing the "first come first served" thing to get their freshman class nailed down. that would suck. basically that would mean that even if you get an acceptance, you might get rejected because you didn't get your medical form in before the next person.

i haven't decided yet. my first choice is still vmi i think. this is my spring break though so i'm going to be thinking about this hard and researching.

have you caught the videos on vmi & citadel on youtube? here are some interesting ones for the citadel:

did anyone else get this funny email from the citadel this morning titled "Push E-mail Draft"? it looks like someone "pushed" the wrong button and it got sent out to admitted candidates my mistake in it's unfinished form. i loved the "Captain Crunch" thing! :shake:

one thing from the email, it's obvious that the citadel has different admissions counselors for girls and for boys. not a surprise since i found the same thing at VMI. i think both colleges must be pushing hard to increase the number of women cadets. :thumb:

Hahaha I didn't receive it but I heard about it. Yes, I'm sure both colleges are competing for the best of the female cadets. Which must mean you're a female? I'm sorry. This whole time I thought you were a male. Now that I know that you're a female I think you should go to The Citadel two fold. Hahaha. That school could use some good female cadets

Quick question.

WHERE IN THE WORLD DO I FIND MY "CIT" NUMBER?!?!
