I'm a 3 dig at USAFA and about to upgrade boots to something lighter and more breathable than the issued boots. Does anyone know the specific requirements for ABU boots at the Academy? The CSP just says that they need to be Sage Green, but that's about all I can find.

I'm thinking about getting these (http://www.uspatriottactical.com/rocky-c4trainer-sage-lightweight-boots.html) if they are allowed.

Thanks!

I have seen several guys wearing these around. It says they are Air Force sage green in the description so they should be fine.

would any boot that's authorized in active air force be authorized at USAFA?

Here's what USAFA sent out to appointees who wanted to buy boots ahead of time:

These boots must meet the following specifications: sage green in color, 8 inches
high, have a rubber sole, and a waterproof upper bootie (Gore-tex or similar). The boots must NOT have steel or safety toes, or zippers.

good boots

A good brand of boots for hot weather is Corcoran. The heels pinch a little bit, but other than that, they are very comfortable and breath very well. Price range is about 140-180.

I have heard it is no longer recommended that we bring a pair of broken in boots to basic, due to the new ones having no break in time.

Is this true?

This topic's been discussed in a previous thread: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=18584

It's true; here's a quote from the USAFA December 2010 Parents Newsletter:

BOOTS FOR APPOINTEES
The rules are changing for the Class of 2015. The current boots need no break-in time like the previous solid leather boots so there is no advantage in getting the boots in advance. The cadets will no longer be issued a credit if the boots are purchased in advance. If you have questions please contact Richard Roberts at 719–333-3288 or e-mail him at

I already have had the boots purchased and have been running in them for some time now.
Can I bring the boots with me to In-processing?

Sure but you still will be issued and charged for two pair. You might want to have them brought to you on Parents Weekend or shipped to you so you don't have to carry them all I-day.

Leave the broken in pair at home (save the hassle -- and don't draw attention to yourself on I-Day with a pair of boots). Have your parents bring them to Parents Weekend or ship them to you after Basic. Your boots may be torn up after Basic -- you will have a replacement pair ready to go. My daughter's two pairs just barely made it through Basic and she had to get new ones after Basic anyway. They won't go to waste by any means.
