If I am slightly allergic to cats and dustmites, will that crush my chances of ever attending a military academy?:frown:
Thanks:smile:

My sons are both allergic to cats and they're FIRSTIES. Can't speak to the dustmites though

thanks! that is encouraging. did the DoDmerb or academy put them on hold for their allergy to cats or did they pass them right away?

You will probably have to do some extra paperwork for a waiver, but I don't think it will be a huge issue.

I know someone at the AFA allergic to dustmites. No problem. :)

I would be very cautious about saying "No problem" simply because you know someone at USAFA who has an allergy to dustmites. Each applicant's health history is different, and the decision to grant a waiver can be different, especially considering the reduction in appointments lately.

Thanks everyone for your responses and encouragement. I will continue to pursue an appointment to the USAFA and hope for the best. :thumb:

If you are on allergen immunizations (ie allergy shots) then that will be a problem. If you merely take something like Claritin/Flonase/Allegra/etc, etc then that is usually much less of an issue.

I'm allergic to cats, I still had to fill out the allergy form, but I just wrote that it gave me no serious problems and that I don't take meds for it

Thanks. Actually I have two cats at home and I don't take any medication at all. Its just if I am around too much I sneeze once in a while.
Thanks for the assurance:)

Okay thanks!! congrats on your appointment! good luck at BCT!

Mine just had to fill out a form describing they took Benadryl (or similar) if their symptoms warranted such meds.

But the above posters are correct; it's different for each person.
