What are the instructions in regards to eating in Michell Hall for Basics? Last year at SS during 'Doolie for a Day' I still remember our element never being able to get it right which increasingly frustrated our cadre... Could anyone shed light on this?

Stare at the AF symbol at 12-o'clock and try not to tick-off your cadre.

I think the answer is, it is impossible to "get it right." That's by design. They'll undergo the same exercise in futility and complete frustration with respect to room inspections.

Is it possible to consume all the calories necessary for BCT in 20 minutes with these guidelines? When my husband ('85) was a cadet, they could only chew each mouthful "20x" and cadre counted each chew. Is that still the case?

From personal experience at SS plus confirmation from a buddy of mine at USAFA, if your table does really poorly in handling the "table manners" and thus hardly had the chance to eat, you'll usually be given a "Viking Minute", where you're given one minute by the table commandant to stuff your mouths and down as much food as possible. It's tough (try downing a hot pocket in 30 secs...), but we all managed to get a decent amount to eat in the end.

You will learn these procedures when it's time :)

And we do not count chews anymore... but taking big bites will get you some attention.

It is very possible to get it right. I absolutely loved when a table of my basics did what they were supposed to and I got to enjoy my meal instead of harping on them at every second. You'll get taught, you'll learn, and then it's really not that bad. Annoying, yes, but as long as you do it right, you can easily consume your entire meal with time to spare.

And the rule on chews now is "a reasonable time". In other words, if you're asked a question and you can't answer for 2 minutes because you stuffed your face, that's probably an issue.

Yep. The cadre want to eat, too, but they will do what it takes to ensure things are done correctly.

The first couple meals suck for cadre, because they spend the whole time correcting people and not eating!
