I was wondering about SAT and ACT scores. I am a 4.0 GPA student involved in athlethics and many community services. I am a member of the National Honor Society, Cheerleading Captain, received many academic awards, I am taking all AP classes. My concern is my GPA and class rank are great but my SAT score is only 1500. Could that be a problem to get accepted to USMA.
If anyone has any insights I would really appreciate it.
Because you refer to 1500 as 'only' I'm going to assume you're talking about your scores on the 2400 scale; that would
roughly mean that you got 500M, 500CR, 500W. Speaking rather blatantly, with those scores you will not be able to get an appointment to USMA.
Recent average SAT scores for the entering class (I'm going to refer to the
Profile for USMA Class of 2014) are 625 and 642 for Verbal and Math respectively. Hence, I would
HIGHLY advice you to retake them numerous times - perhaps even take a prep course for it.
Give the ACT a go too; I found myself do significantly better on the ACT compared to the SAT. USMA treats them equally, so might as well give both of them a go to see which format you work better with.
As much as these test scores are important for your 'core' application to USMA, it'll also play a significant factor in applying for your nominations. You'll be competing on a regional (Congressman), state (Senator) and nationwide (President/Vice-President) level. With your academics (ie. GPA, course load,
SAT/ACT scores) being one of the biggest factors in the Nomination Committee in making their decision, you'll want to make sure that you strive for the very best to beat your competition.
Apart from that, your overall application looks pretty solid - best of luck with your application!
