The class of 2015 had a gorgeous day yesterday in Annapolis with temperatures in the mid 80s and a nice breeze blowing throughout the day. Not that the new Plebes really had a chance to appreciate it but the rest of us did. BTW the admissions numbers mentioned were a record 19,145 applications and a class of 1220 (not sure how many offers of appointments were extended – probably around 1400).

Hmm... 1220 Plebes for 2012 to train.... nice symmetry. Welcome, 2015 parents and friends!

Sounds like the weather's about as good as it can get in late June in Naptown! That really does help ... stressed out parents and fam!

Continued caution on the 19K apps. A literal new record #, but take care of misinterpreting the implication, i.e. that it suggests the greatest degree of significant interest. The process has dramatically changed over the past couple of years. It's like its inverse, suggesting that 2014 had the quickest climb on Herndon... well, yes, but ...

In any case, it doesn't matter beyond the 1220 or so lucky ones who showed up and now belong to the Navy! Be great seeing their profile. But until that first fone call comes ... pray for the well-being of these young men and women with great hearts and grand callings. Here's to thick skins, quick and thorough learning, and figurative fingernails that are long.

It's too bad I was unable to be there. I will be seeing my boyfriend at Parent's Weekend, however. This is such a great opportunity for him. I am excited.

You're "right" on several fronts, imo. Great opportunity. Nothing personal, but great that you allowed this to be a family time. Tough as it may be to fathom and accept, girl and boy friends can be real confounder/complicators in this. He needs to focus and fly in this transition, and your genuine care allows him that total freedom. So many romantic interests perceive they can keep these doves from flying by holding them too tightly. Rarely does that allow for the bird or the relationship surviving. Confounding this even more is adding stress to the 3 way relationship among you, your boyfriend and his parents' Mid, and those parents. For now, you need to take the back seat or even no seat. Read the Parents Plebe Weekend title and your potential inclusion carefully, noting the moniker of that event. Your role is better complementary than competitive.

Actually, he and his family invited me and are paying to fly me out there. I love them and they love me, so there is no competitiveness, anyway. I don't know how one would even be competitive? I am kind of confused as to what you are trying to say. We have been dating for almost three years (it will be three in September). Our connection is deep enough that we don't need to talk every day. At first I was concerned but, now that he has left and the feelings of nervous anticipation have passed, I am really excited for him and for myself as well (I will be starting college in September). My boyfriend was much more confident about our relationship, but I am feeling better now too. We have already been though a lot (I have/had...issues, to say the least), but are as close as ever.

It sounds like your Mid has nice parents. It is an exciting time for all the students, parents and family members involved. Good luck with college and I hope you have a good time in Annapolis in August.
