For some majors, AFROTC allows up to 5 years to complete the degree. Does AROTC require all majors to complete their degree in 4 years?

When DS went for his PMS interview last fall, ROO told hime to plan on 4.5 to 5 years, given that his major is CE and also needs the MS minor, and that they work with them on that. At orientation last month his advisor also told him to plan on more than 4 years given the MS minor. Guess we'll find out some time down the line how that works with the scholarship and other stuff.

AROTC scholarships can pay for 5 yrs of college, in an approved 5 yr degree program (usually engineering). Downgrading from 5 yr to 4 yr allowed, upgrading 4yr scholarship to a 5 yr scholarship not allowed.

-At least that's what a ROO told us, he said if DS was thinking about engineering at UArk, to declare it, because it would not be not possible to change into 5 yr engineering once a 4 yr scholarship was accepted.

For engineering, the scholarship will actually pay for 5 years. That is good to know. I was somewhat concerned about son being able to complet ME degree along with ROTC in 4 years.

Traditionally for every branch re:ROTC scholarship, if the school says FT it takes 5 yrs to achieve the degree, they will give 5 yrs.

The one finesse issue to understand is something we found out last yr. DS learned when registering for spring sem. jr. yr. that the school had him graduating in fall sr. yr. because he had fulfilled all of his requirements for the degree. (This would have been a semester early). Due to the scholarship requirements, he had to go from a major/minor/core to a dual major/minor/core to fulfill his ROTC lab requirements and scholarship.

Kids these days seem to be taking more and more credits, leading to graduating earlier or with a jt Bachelor/Master degree in 4 yrs. ROTC students need to work with the academic advisor and their ROTC instructor. Other wise your child can become our child, scrambling to figure out how to maintain ft status when you academically are done.

Also, for anyone entering the engineering portion, remember if you elect to go from a tech major to a non-tech major you need to get approval to keep the scholarship.

Some kinesiology majors also require 9 semesters. AROTC accommodates that.
