Poor High School grades with good college grades

During high school I hardly cared about school. All I wanted to do was have fun. I have realized that I never made the best choices in my life, but I think I am different now. I believe I am more mature.
I got horrible grades. I graduated with a 2.1
I am in community college now and always knew about USNA because of my friend who is currently a plebe there. I did attend NASS my junior year though, and happened to enjoy it a lot. I Know for a fact that I want to make military service my career.
I have been learning more about USNA, and I think it is the place for me.
I think it's already too late for that, although my friend doesn't think so.
I have good grades in college so far. All A's and one B. The B was in Pre-Cal.
I never did a sport in high school due to devoting my time to JROTC.
Is it too late for me? Or do I still have a shot at getting in?
If I can still get in, should I do a sport right now?

If being an officer in the service is what you want- there are other ways to earn a commission. OCS/OTS- Officer candidate school or ROTC.....
 
How many credits do you have?
What classes have you taken?
(calc, chem, physics, engl, hist etc?)

If you've been in college for awhile and have shown
great improvement I don't think that high school grades
will matter that much. But this is coming from another
applicant. I'm sure someone more qualified will answer
your question soon.
 
Not looking good. I'm having trouble understanding why your grads were so low in high school. I had great grades in high school, and struggled (maybe could have focused a little more) at an academy. You may want to go there, but there is little in your past that would indicate it's a good place for you to go.

As has been said, ROTC and OCS would be options, or enlisting, if the Navy is where you want to be.
 
A couple of years ago, I attended an Academy parents event and the speaker was a former Naval Academy Graduate. His story was very similar to yours. Bad grades and attitude in HS and the light comes on in college.

He described his " 4 year" oddesy to get accepted into the Naval Academy. Yes, he was turned down four years in a row and was finally accepted in his last year of eligiblity as a 23 year old. It took that long and an amazing amount of perserverence to over come his slacker days in High School.

Your chances of making it into USNA are very slim based on your description of your high school performance, but like a lot of things in life if you want it bad enough it is possible. Good luck!
 
Jadler is precisely correct... give it a try! BUT, not a half-hearted try. Anyone who has taken an honest shot at earning an appointment will tell you that it is not for the faint-hearted - it requires a real commitment to the effort, attention to detail, and giving everything your absolute best effort. You already know that your high school grades are not going to carry you through, but, in a perverse manner, they could help show how well you can do when you really are trying to excel. And regardless, the effort you put into trying to earn an appointment will make you that much more attractive to any other school you may attend. Work at it; you may surprise yourself at what you can accomplish if you really try. Best wishes to you.
