I'm taking a trip with the family to NYC this sunday July 17. How could we schedule a tour of the West Point campus? Thanks

Check out

westpointtours.com

They are a for profit outfit who offer 1 and 2 hour bus tours (with several stops to get out- Trophy Point, Cadet Chapel, on all tours, and cemetary on 2 hr tours). I took the 1 hour one in May and enjoyed it very much- it wasn't my first time there but I still learned from the guide.

Hope that helps-enjoy your visit!

You schedule a tour in the Visitor's Center in Highland Falls. You can also do it over the phone with a credit card. Make sure everyone brings ID.

The 2-hour tour is my preference. Very informative.

If you are interested in applying you should make arrangements for a briefing at admissions. You'll get onto the campus, and likely get a tour with a cadet. When we did it the whole family was able to sit in on the briefing.

After that you'll be able to roam most of the campus at your leisure.

You'll need to check, but I'm pretty sure they allowed Sophomores. Juniors for sure.

You'll need to plan your visit to fit their hours, but it's more fun than the commercial tour, and you'll see more. The tour is good, but you only stop at trophy point and the chapel on most. They do cover quite a bit of history, etc.

If on the weekend, you can attend church at most of the services. You can also eat at the Thayer. Both give you a reason to go on campus if you can't arrange an admissions briefing.

Once on the campus there are some natural walking loops, you leave your car at Buffalo Soldier field near the S Gate & Thayer. There is also a shuttle that will carry you if you are in a hurry. After walking you can drive over to Ike hall, etc to see some of the areas that might be a bit far to walk.

While it's mostly an open post we've been told, security does want to know your reason for visiting and you'll have to have your vehicle inspected. Photo ID for all over 16. They may ask for insurance & registration.

Hit the museum & visitor center while you are there. Both are free. The museum is worth a visit.

If you get there early enough, make sure to stop by and see the change of command ceremony when the Beast 1 cadre hand over the New Cadets to Beast 2. :thumb:

Thanks America's Finest for the hard work into turning the new cadets into cadets, enjoy some much needed time off.:smile:

AF, it's so heartwarming to see you in a leadership role...you've really done us proud!

There was a time a few of us were a bit concerned...back a few years ago...but you have really stepped up to the plate.

Ok so to schedule a tour how many days in advance should I register? And what exactly is that admissions briefing?

For a tour through West Point Tours, I have walked in "off the street" and gotten a tour, but I have also made a reservation when my time was a little tighter and I needed to be guaranteed a specific time.

If you are considering West Point as a college, you can book one of the admissions briefings where an admissions representative will speak with the group and then a cadet speaks and later leads a tour (during the school year). When you have an LOA or offer of admission, you can stay overnight in the barracks with a host cadet. This link http://admissions.usma.edu/visit.html says you need to schedule a visit two weeks out. The link that GoArmyBeatNavy gave you explains more about visiting in the summer, so be sure and read that too.

Thanks for the info everyone. So for a summer admissions briefing how far ahead of time do you need to schedule? I'm only in New York for 4 more days. Thanks.

If I were you - I would call them first thing in the morning. :thumb:

Well I got the tour and was able to speak to a Major O'hern which was very helpful. Thanks everyone.

If you are also working on Plan B, you should stop by Marist College to check out our ROTC program. We are the closest ROTC program to USMA. ROTC Scholarship winners will receive free room and board from Marist College. PM me for more info.
