Beat Retreat

Beat Retreat is in the gym. It is a program that the Band puts on as well as a Police Bagpipe band that last year had a couple of KPers in it. The gym is crowded and can be hot so bring something to fan yourself with. Very interesting program. They march separately and then together. Close to the end, the other Plebe Candidates will march in carrying the US Flags and their State flag so many Plebe Candidates are involved.
Take your camera with a good distance flash.
Enjoy, something that you should attend and watch.

Beat Retreat / State Flag

Does that mean if we have a ds/dd who's a plebe they need to have a State Flag? Are all plebes, only Band Co plebes, or select plebes involved? Wondering if I need to purchase a state flag for my ds...

The flags for beat retreat will be provided so no need to purchase them for that; however, the plebes will need a state flag to hang up (I would try to get one from your state congressman/senator).

Also, all of band co will be involved and then they need additional plebes to assist as "flag bearers" which in the past have pretty much been chosen at random (plus volunteers).

My DS was fortunate enough to hold the State flag. Something he wanted to do

DS is in Band Company and this will be his last beat retreat. I can tell you from three years experience it is REALLY, REALLY hot in that gym. Take the advice of others, bring a fan, dress comfortably and have something to drink. Then enjoy....

The above is an excellent example of beat retreat from Acceptance Weekend of 2009.
The Director Captain Force is the most talented director to say the least (http://www.usmma.edu/band/director.htm) Everyone should go.

Each year, the newly formed, tightly knit group of instrumentalists (and those who learn to be instrumentalists) and (those who have never walked in rhythm or in a band), all learn to play instruments, march in time, rhythm, in formations they've never been in before....as ONE unit through the longest and many week night rehearsals on top of their academics, other activities, watch, etc. The regimental band has performed for the President, in the Thanksgiving Day Parade, in Quebec, in Battery Park for the Dutch Royal Family, Ticonderoga NY, among other places and for other dignitaries in years past. And, if your ds or dd is a vocalist, you'll undoubtedly be pleasantly surprised to hear him or her sing a duet or solo.

Support the Regimental Band!!!:thumb:

Very Impressive. Thanks for the video.
Looking forward to an eventful weekend.

NCRaider! Glad I could help! The Regimental Band doesn't get as much peer support from their peers outside of band, but their work ethic and "product" astounded me when I saw/heard them for the first time. Being a professional in the performing arts myself, I was moved to tears and was so proud to see/hear these committed young adults. They accomplish so much in a professional way in such a short time. I admire all levels of sports, but I think it would be difficult to pull any sports team together (ie: some never having played before w/ those who have) as quickly and productively as Capt Force does with the Regimental Band. Please correct me if I am wrong!:yllol:
