Does anyone know where I can find (or maybe someone out there who is handy with fabric can make one for sale) fabric that has USMMA or a logo (or really anything) that I could make a scrub hat out of?

I would love to be able to have something like this to wear to the OR:

I guess with nothing else I could probably get a shirt or something off the alumni store to cut up and make one, but that's way beyond my capabilities.

Yes because we all know that cutting up fabric and sewing it back together is way harder than surgery. :shake: pa-leeze doc your killng me. It would be very easy to get a half dollar sized patch and sew it on some KP inspired fabric. Any alumni out there know where I can find this patch? We need kp2001 to be representing in style. Should it say Beat Coast Guard on the back? Ah, I kid Luigi.

I had a blanket made for my mid when I was TAD to Korea. Just downloaded the USMMA logo from the web and took it to the embroidery shop on base. Currently stationed in Okinawa; I know the base embroidery shop will do it. The letters KP will probably be a lot easier than the full blown logo with its multiple colors (they may not be able to make it small enough to fit on a scrub hat - the blanket logo is 12 inches across). Let me know if you want me to check it out.

KP2001, if you need one, I will have one made up for you but it will have to have USMMA as that doesn't cost nearly as much as having the logo done. Just a matter of buying some blank caps and having the embroidery done. The Logo will have to be (I forgot the term) but they have to send it off to have the pattern made and the count of stitches computerized and that cost although we may (our association) want to do that and have items done for sale to other parents.
Either way, let me know.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to try to find a nice blue cap and then probably just go with KP in silver lettering at our local NEX embroidery shop. I hadn't thought of that idea before Navy1981 mentioned it.

If I don't like how that turns out I'll have to go a different route.

Hey, Doc...anything would look better than that UT scrub hat you used as a demo. Besides, Oklahoma State Orange is so much better looking than that UT stuff.

Beg to differ - Georgia Tech!!!!

You know a Black Sharpie to just write "KP" and a Trojan Magnum XL might be easier.

GA Tech is not orange, I am just saying GA Tech would be better all the way around, except for KP. - Hubby at one, son at the other.

KP2001: PM me, I have an embroidery machine and have already bought the file. I might be able to help you!

I checked out the website and noticed all the designs are copyright protected. Is the embroidery design/file protected or the logo?

I'm asking because I am ordering KP merchandise (ex: coozies, lanyards,...) for our parents association to sell at Parents' Weekend which many of the associations do. I asked a few other parents about using the logo and nobody seemed to know for sure if it was ok.

Here's what my interpretation is. The embroidery website states the following about the embroidery files:

"Merchant Marine Academy
© Copyright 2011 by Bella Mia Designs
By licensing these designs you agree to these terms: This design is copyright protected by Bella Mia Designs and may not be distributed, altered or unaltered in any format outside of embroidery designs.com or directly from Bella Mia Designs. Items with this design sewn onto the product may be sold commercially with limitation. You must have written consent to mass market items using this design. Bella Mia Designs will not be held liable for any monetary losses or consequential damages as a result of using this design."

It is the file itself, as digitized and produced by Bella Mia Designs that is protected. It has always been my understanding that U.S Government logos are not copyright protected. This is what Wikipedia states:

"Copyright status of work by the U.S. government
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A work of the United States government, as defined by United States copyright law, is "a work prepared by an officer or employee of the U.S. government as part of that person's official duties."[1] The term only applies to the work of the federal government, including the governments of "non-organized territorial areas" under the jurisdiction of the U.S Government,[2] but not state or local governments. In general, under section 105 of the Copyright Act,[3] such works are not entitled to domestic copyright protection under U.S. law, sometimes referred to as 'noncopyright.'

The act only applies to U.S. domestic copyright as that is extent of U.S. federal law. The U.S. government asserts that it can still hold the copyright of those works in other countries.[4] However the language of the statute implies no geographical restriction on its denial of copyright protection to U.S. government works as it says, 'Copyright protection under this title is not available for any work of the United States Government….'[5]"

As USMMA is a federal entity, the logo is public domain.

I am ready to stand corrected!
