I just received information from the Acting Commandant of Midshipmen about what the candidates can receive.

Here is what is allowed now and until parents weekend:

"Care Packages" from families, but send enough for everyone in your candidates platoon.

Irons, ironing boards, and other "utility-like" things should NOT be sent until after Parents Weekend.

How many are typically in their platoons

My son requested some items from home, study aids he forgot. I would like to send some goodies. How many are typically are in their platoons? Are they allowed at this point to have goodies? Do they receive mail on Saturday? If I send a package, is there a special address to send it to? I don't have a box # for him yet I do know his company, though. Thx

Last year I sent enough individual bags of my homemade caramel corn for each person in the platoon during the time they said we could send them and it never made it. They didn't even tell my son that I had sent it. Don't know if it wasn't healthy enough or what. Shipping said it did arrive. It took a lot of effort to bag all of that and ship it. I was disappointed but not angry.

i sent my boyfriend candy, and it was totally fine. i think it depends on the detailer too.

i heard that you're not supposed to send homemade food. maybe it's just rumor, but that's what some plebes have said. it makes sense, just because they want to avoid any sort of issue with drugs.

Why is my DS asking for an iron then? Shouldn't that have been part
of what they were required to bring?

Haha, that's definitely not the case. This isn't a prison (although it feels like it at times). 99% of what we were sent during indoc was homemade, which was a lot more meaningful to us anyways, so feel free to send it! It's not as if they are going to throw it away; if the candidates can't have it the officers/DIs and various other personnel will eat it, so don't worry about it going to waste.
