Navy EOD

My son (2nd Class NROTC Midshipmen) is interested in pursuing EOD as his preferred assignment after commissioning.
Can some one with knowledge of this elite community provide feedback regarding the responsibilities of the supervising officers and if they are actively involved in the diffusing of explosives/WMD’s? This is obviously very dangerous work.

I would think your DS would want to email to this guy
and ask for an info packet/job description, and to just introduce himself.
Asking if there is any special classes or training to prepare for a job never hurts.

FWIW - Not to be morbid, but a quick scan of EOD deaths in Iraq/Afghanistan, I don't see many/any commissioned officers, but the death toll for the EOD technicians is awful to contemplate. Those guys are true heroes.
